Job Description Summary Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal‑directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health‑care team to achieve desired results. Organization Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) Worker Type Employee Worker Sub‑Type Regular Cost Center CC000554 CHS - Oncology - 7W (Main) Pay Rate Type Hourly Pay Grade Health‑27 Hours per Week 36 Work Shift Rotating (United States of America) Unit Description 7West MedSurg & Surgical Oncology is a high‑acuity 24‑bed adult inpatient unit specializing in gynecology oncology, head/neck oncology and head/neck benign patients. 7West also provides care for a variety of other medical/surgical patient populations including but not limited to management of behavioral, respiratory, endocrine, GI, and trauma patients. The unit manages patients receiving inpatient chemotherapy, radiation, leech therapy, total parenteral nutrition and enteral nutrition. This unit cares for complex microvascular head and neck flap patients which includes complex wound management, tracheostomy and laryngectomy patient care. The unit also manages palliative and hospice patient populations at varying stages of their disease progression to include aggressive pain management. Because of the diversity of populations cared for in this unit, once hired 7West encourages and offers opportunities for their nurses to obtain specialty certification in a number of areas to include oncology, head and neck, med/surg, and palliative care. Minimum Training and Education Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July1,2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations Licensure as a registered nurse by the SouthCarolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare. Physical and Mental Requirements Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors and outside in temperature extremes, elevated areas, confined/cramped spaces, and from kneeling positions. Ability to bend, twist at the waist, squat, perform pinching operations, gross motor activities with fingers and hands, fine manipulation, reach overhead, repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, fully use both legs, lower extremities for balance and coordination, lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted, lift/lower objects 50 lbs from/to floor = 36 inches unassisted, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs, exert up to 50 lbs of force, transfer a 100‑lb patient requires 50 lbs of force, push a 400‑lb patient in a wheelchair on carpet 20 lbs of force, push a stretcher with a patient with one hand 25 lbs of force. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes; see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance; match or discriminate between colors; determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception; good peripheral vision; maintain hearing acuity, with correction; perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements; deal effectively with stressful situations; work rotating shifts; work overtime; work in a latex safe environment; maintain tactile sensory functions; (Selected Positions) maintain good olfactory sensory function; (Selected Positions) qualify physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
