Senior Systems Engineer

ACTIVE SECURITY CLEARANCE AT THE TS/SCI POLYGRAPH LEVEL IS REQUIRED We are seeking a top-tier Systems Engineer specializing in State Management to join our team in Annapolis Junction, MD. In this role, you will lead systems engineering efforts focused on capturing, tracking, managing, reporting, brokering, and enriching current and historical metadata across mission-critical analytic workflow processes. You won't just write technical documents; you'll serve as the ultimate bridge between operational analysts, software teams, and executive leadership. From formulating Concepts of Operations (CONOPs) and Interface Control Documents (ICDs) to integrating cutting-edge AI technologies into core analyst workflows, you will take full ownership of the technical integrity, architecture, and overall lifecycle planning for our state management solutions. If you excel at turning complex operational chaos into crisp, structured engineering roadmaps, you’ll fit right in with Team Nyla. The annual base salary range for this role is $205,000-$243,000 (USD) , which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Required Skills Requirements Elicitation & Analysis: Proven expertise gathering, analyzing, and translating user and system requirements into structured engineering specifications. Systems Engineering Documentation: Hands-on experience authoring key artefacts, including ICDs, SRSs, SEMPs, high-level architectures, and baseline system designs. Customer & Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrated success working directly with operational users, agency leadership, and external partners to align technical solutions with mission needs. Process Improvement & Workflow Analysis: Experience conducting operational workflow analysis, process optimization, and capability planning efforts. Cross-Functional Communication: Excellent technical writing and oral communication skills with the ability to maintain technical alignment across users, developers, and executive leadership. Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline, PLUS 14+ years of professional systems engineering experience OR Master’s Degree in a related field, PLUS 12+ years of specialized professional systems engineering experience OR High School Diploma / GED , PLUS 18+ years of hands-on technical systems engineering and requirements management experience in lieu of a degree. Desired Skills Data Governance & Compliance: Experience with Agency dataflow, compliance policies, enterprise data labels/formats, and corporate tool integrations. Analyst Workflow & Content Triage: Familiarity with content triage, transcription workflows, language analysis, or sourcing-related mission areas. AI Technology Integration: Practical experience coordinating and integrating AI technologies and automated enrichment into development workflows. Large-Scale Data Tracking: Experience managing data threads and metadata visibility for complex multi-regional systems dealing with massive datasets. Former Agency Analyst Experience: Direct operational background as an Agency Analyst or Intelligence Community mission operator.
