Job Title: Trailer Mechanic
Job Description
This role focuses on the final assembly of custom-designed, heavy haul trailers, ensuring safe and reliable operation. You will work from blueprints to install and assemble mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems using a variety of hand and power tools. The position is hands-on, physically demanding, and offers opportunities to be cross-trained in paint preparation, blasting, and potentially welding and fabrication over time.
Responsibilities

• Perform final assembly of custom heavy haul trailers in accordance with engineering blueprints and company standards.
• Use hand and power tools to install and assemble mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical components.
• Install hydraulic fittings, hoses, and related components while following established hose routing standards.
• Complete control wiring and trailer electrical system installation, ensuring proper connections and functionality.
• Perform trailer alignment and verify general trailer functions for safe and reliable operation.
• Install steering components, wheels, and related hardware using proper tools and techniques.
• Operate cranes and other material-handling equipment safely to move and position large trailer components.
• Read and interpret blueprints and accurately use and read tape measures to ensure precise assembly and fitment.
• Carry out mechanical assembly tasks, including transmission-related and general mechanical work as needed.
• Perform basic fabrication tasks as required to support trailer assembly and fit-up.
• Work in various physical positions, including on the back, knees, and overhead, and perform heavy lifting throughout the shift.
• Follow all safety procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment and adhering to shop rules.
• Comply with no-cellphone-on-the-floor policies and protect proprietary information by avoiding photos or recordings in the work area.
• Participate in cross-training opportunities such as paint preparation, blasting, and potentially welding/fabrication as business needs evolve.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and contribute to a safe, efficient production environment.

Essential Skills

• Experience in mechanical assembly or repair within diesel, trailer, automotive, or heavy industrial environments.
• Ability to read and work from blueprints and follow detailed technical instructions.
• Proficiency in accurately using and reading a tape measure for precise measurements.
• Comfort and skill in using a wide range of hand and power tools for mechanical and assembly work.
• Basic mechanical skills, including understanding of general trailer functions and mechanical systems.
• Ability to work with hydraulic systems, including fittings, hoses, and related components.
• Ability to perform or support electrical wiring tasks related to trailer control and electrical systems.
• Familiarity with pneumatics and their application in trailer or industrial equipment.
• Capability to perform mechanical assembly work in physically demanding conditions, including heavy lifting and working in varied positions.
• Ability to operate cranes or willingness to learn safe crane usage for moving large components.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to following company standards and safety procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in diesel, trailer, automotive, or heavy industrial assembly is highly transferable and valued.
• Experience in trailer repair, automotive industry work, or transmission-related mechanical work.
• Experience working in an auto body shop or similar environment involving fabrication and mechanical assembly.
• Ability to work with hydraulics, electrical wiring, and pneumatics beyond basic familiarity.
• Experience with torch and plasma cutter operation and related cutting or fabrication skills.
• Exposure to welding and fabrication processes, with interest in further cross-training.
• Comfort working from blueprints and using tape measures as primary measurement tools.
• Willingness to learn paint preparation and blasting processes as part of cross-training.
• Reliability and readiness to "hit the ground running" with minimal training on mechanical aspects.
• Ability to adhere to strict shop policies regarding proprietary information and device usage.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carlisle, PA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $25.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
