Zurich Canada is currently looking for a Senior Underwriter, Management Liability on our Financial Lines team to underwrite and grow a portfolio management liability risks while building strong relationships with our brokers and customers. This role is open to candidates based in Vancouver.Reporting to the Underwriting Manager, Western Region (Management Liability – Middle Market Accounts), you will be responsible for developing and underwriting a profitable book of business within your delegated authority, acting as a primary point of contact for brokers, and applying Zurich’s underwriting frameworks to deliver disciplined, market-leading solutions. All hiring decisions are reviewed and made by qualified hiring professionals.Zurich follows a hybrid work model requiring three days per week of in-person presence, which may include time in the office or market-facing engagements.What you will doUnderwrite new and renewal commercial Management Liability within your delegated authority, focusing on accounts with higher technical complexity.Assess and price risks using Zurich’s underwriting tools and methodologies, ensuring alignment with underwriting strategy and risk appetite.Structure coverage, terms and conditions that meet customer needs while achieving profitable growth and portfolio balance.Proactively build and manage a qualified pipeline of opportunities 90–120 days before they go to market.Develop and maintain strong relationships with assigned brokers and key accounts, acting as a trusted advisor and primary contact.Participate in broker meetings, client meetings, marketing activities and presentations to promote Zurich’s capabilities and drive new business.Collaborate closely with internal partners such as claims, risk engineering and other underwriting teams to deliver integrated solutions and cross-sell additional lines of business.Cross-sell and coordinate on larger or more complex accounts, ensuring consistent application of underwriting standards.Lead or support short-term projects (typically 3–9 months) aimed at improving underwriting processes, tools or customer experience.Share technical expertise and provide guidance to less experienced underwriters, contributing to a culture of learning and continuous improvement.Job Qualifications - What you bring to the tableRequired:High School Diploma or equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area. ORHigh School Diploma or equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.ORZurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area. ORZurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.ANDKnowledge of line(s) of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines.Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.Experience with Microsoft Office.Preferred:University Degree or equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area. ORUniversity Degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.ANDSpecialization in Business Administration, Commerce, or FinanceKnowledge of line(s) of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines.Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.Experience with Microsoft Office.Strong verbal and written communication skills.At Zurich Canada, we are committed to pay equity. We determine compensation based on objective criteria such as skills, experience, and internal equity. The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $125,000. This range reflects the expected pay for the role across Canada and may vary depending on factors like office location, specific responsibilities, and individual qualifications. As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable compensation range, but starting salaries may exceed this range based on a candidate’s skills and experience.
