Senior Trainer

Applications accepted from: All Persons Interested Section/ Service Line: Houston Permitting Center / Communications Reporting Location: 1002 Washington Ave Workdays & Hours: M-F, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm (Weekends as Needed; subject to change) Overview Houston Public Works is the largest and most diverse public works department in the country. This position is located in the Business Support Services branch and reports to the Division Manager of Communications and Outreach. Responsibilities Conduct training courses for the Houston Permitting Center. Lead a group of instructors. Confers with Training Coordinator and management to identify areas requiring training for the Houston Permitting Center. Determine instructional outlines in accordance with department procedures. Select or develop teaching aids, such as handbooks, demonstration equipment, multimedia visual aids and reference material. Conduct general or specialized training sessions as required, including but not limited to: HouPermits Training, Infor for the Permitting Center, GIS mapping for the Permitting Center, New Employee Training for the Permitting Center, QFlow for the Permitting Center. Evaluate community school courses and recommend participation by City/department employees. Application administrator responsible for configuring, securing, and maintaining training applications such as Apty, TMS, and SAP. Develop training manuals, reference libraries, testing and evaluation procedures, multimedia visual aids and other instructional materials. Assist in departmental budget development to include equipment and material requirements. Other duties as assigned. Working Conditions The position involves routine walking, periods of sitting, and occasional stooping or bending. Occasional light lifting (up to 40 pounds) may be required. Education Requirements Requires a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Education, Personnel Management or a related field. Experience Requirements Three years of professional personnel experience involving training in a formal classroom setting and/or the development of curriculum and lesson plans for adult learners. Pertinent training experience on a professional level may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. License Requirements None. Preference will be given to candidates with a valid Texas Driver’s license. Preferences Experience with government or non-profit training programs. Experience with communications relations or public relations. Strong interpersonal skills. Effective verbal and written communication. Bi- lingual in English and Spanish, or other major languages spoken in Houston (Vietnamese, Arabic, Mandarin, French). Eligible veteran status. Salary Information Salary grade 21. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification. Safety Impact Position Yes.
