EMS Assistant Shift Manager

Description This position assists the Shift Manager in ensures all requests for Emergency Services for Aiken County are handled promptly and appropriately. This involved overseeing the duties of shift personnel, performing rescue operations and providing patient care at the paramedic level. Examples of Duties JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Note: The list below is not comprehensive; this job is also responsible for other duties as assigned. 1. Shift Management - The incumbent is the first in line for monitoring dispatch and ensuring the appropriate personnel and equipment is sent to each call received, back-up being the Shift Manager. This involves knowing where all ambulances and quick response vehicles are located in that portion of the County and based upon the severity of the need, matching proximity with the appropriate level of care required. The incumbent also reviews all records of all calls during their shift for completeness, accuracy, and patient care quality. 2. Patient Care - This position is responsible for being out in the community during the shift, and to respond to calls when needed and appropriate. Based upon proximity, the incumbent may be the first responder to a situation and stabilize it until an ambulance arrives. 3. Administrative Duties - The incumbent will complete performance evaluations on assigned shift members, review timesheets, and create any required accident/injury reports or other reports needed. 4. Training - The incumbent participates in training as needed to maintain the highest level of patient care and ensure that all shift members receive training they need based upon assessment of the patient records submitted. The incumbent operates with very limited supervision while in the field. However, there is constant contact with the Shift Manager who must determine if and when additional resources or mutual aid is required The major challenges of the job include the size of the County. Being able to make sound decisions very quickly is critical. WORK LEADERSHIP OR SUPERVISION: This position manages a team of about 30 people, including 12 crew chiefs. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB: Moving patients up to 500 pounds; handling an operating mechanical extrication equipment up to 150 pounds NOTE: A Job Description describes the JOB; its minimum qualifications and primary responsibilities. Typical Qualifications REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE: Minimum Level of Job-Related Education: High School. Minimum Amount of Job-Related Experience: 6-8 years of EMS experience. At least 4 years should be in supervision with at least 2 years as a Paramedic. Minimum Level of any Required Qualifications, Licenses, Certificates, Registrations, or any Relevant Knowledge, Job Skill or Equivalent Experience: Paramedic, ACLS, BLS, PALS certifications. SC Fire Academy, Basic Automotive Extrication, HAZMAT Awareness (obtain within 6 months) and Instructor Methodology (obtain within 1 year).
