HVAC HEPA Technicians

Job Description Under the supervision of the Maintenance and Utilities Supervisor and direction of the maintenance team leader, this role installs, maintains, tests/certifies, repairs, and troubleshoots HEPA filtration equipment. The technician ensures compliance with operating procedures, company and government regulations, and Good Manufacturing Practices, guaranteeing the highest quality of products and services. Duties & Responsibilities Perform and document HEPA certifications of Unidirectional Airflow Rooms and Hoods (UARH), Class I/II Biosafety Cabinets (BSC), Air Handler Units (AHU), and HEPA‑filtered miscellaneous equipment. Conduct leak checks, velocity spot checks, non‑viable particle counts, airflow pattern tests, and other tests per procedure. Verify equipment numbers and work order associations before certification tasks. Affix certification tags or equipment defective notice tags per procedure. Maintain all equipment necessary for HEPA certifications and velocity spot checks. Perform EAM transactions as required. Use electronic data collection technology. Carry out corrective maintenance—repair, replace, or adjust equipment—proactively or following certification failure (e.g., filter damage, HEPA filter replacements). Assist utilities technicians in troubleshooting and adjusting HVAC systems to maintain proper airflow. Monitor and measure pressure drops of HVAC filters, replacing them as necessary while ensuring system integrity and safety. Carry and use a radio for expeditious communication of problems. Work from work orders and PM checklists, keeping work records and logs in a cGMP‑compliant manner. Communicate professionally with supervision and customers about equipment status and work requirements. Complete department training requirements (orientation, SOP, safety, etc.) as directed. Actively participate in HAZOPS, waste walkthroughs, Kaizen events, and other quality, safety, or environmental initiatives. Assist in preparing labor and material estimates for technicians, supervisors, and planners. Assist supervision with assigning, scheduling, and prioritizing work order requests using maintenance management systems. Recommend and prepare orders for spare parts, stock room items, tools, etc. Consult with supervision and other mechanics on problem resolution and troubleshooting; keep supervision informed of issues. Prepare and execute safety permits. Equipment Aerosol Generator (Laskin nozzle or thermal) Aerosol Photometer with scanning wand and probe Anemometer (rotary vane or hot wire) Balometer/Multimeter with VELGrid or Flow Hood Forward Light Scatter Particle Analyzer with isokinetic sample probe (Discrete Particle Counter or DPC) Technol Fluid Shield respirator Oxygen sensor Electronic data collection technology (automation/robotics) Portable and fixed power and hand tools, adhesives/sealants, ladders, chemical cleaning equipment, protective clothing and safety devices, electronic/electric measuring devices, two‑way radios Use of fall protection/scaffolding Education and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) Various educational pathways (e.g., HVAC/Refrigeration trade school, community college, formal apprenticeship, military training) meeting at least six months full‑time emphasis (650 hours) in air conditioning, refrigeration, electricity, and associated controls, combined with At least two years of recent full‑time experience as a HEPA certification technician (leak testing, velocity testing) OR Completed a HEPA certification training program with at least one year of experience. No formal education but at least five years of recent full‑time experience as a HEPA certification technician. Desirable Qualifications Demonstrated understanding of testing, adjusting, and balancing HVAC systems. Special Skills or Abilities Ability to read HVAC drawings. Mechanical aptitude. Special Job Features Heavy lifting, aseptic gowning, heat and cold, dust and dirt exposures. May be required to carry a pager and/or radio. Possible work in confined spaces, roofs, and at heights; potential exposure to infectious agents. Subject to emergency call‑in; required availability during work shift to respond to emergencies. Remarks Required to receive company‑mandated immunizations. Must wear company-issued uniform per SOP. Position includes a probationary period.
