Overview

ALRA Engineers, P.C. is a full-service SBE/DBE/MBE engineering firm dedicated to providing consulting services in Construction Management, Construction Inspection, Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Construction Inspector to join our growing team.  The successful candidate will provide construction inspection services on roadways, bridges and or municipal infrastructure projects throughout Central and Southern New Jersey.  As the Construction Inspector will ensure that projects are constructed in accordance with contract plans, specifications, applicable codes, and client requirements while maintaining quality, safety, and schedule expectations.

Responsibilities

·        Reads and interprets construction plans, drawings, and specifications.

·        Prepares contract administration documentation, including daily reports, work narratives, special

inspection reports, and daily time and material.

·        Prepares written documentation for unit price work and quantity tracking.

·        Identifies potential extra work issues and advises the Resident Engineer of potential impacts or

concerns.

• Compiles, supporting documentation, and preparing related sketches as required.
• Reviews plans for constructability and prepares technical comments or recommendations.
• Reviews contractor payment requests and provides comments and recommendations to the Residen Engineer as required.
• Maintains complete daily documentation of construction activities, including photographic records.
• Verity compliance with OSHA safety requirements and project safety standards.
• Attend construction meetings and provide project updates.

Qualifications

• Ability to become familiar with contract requirements, site conditions, and special provisions, including all applicable standards, requirements, and specifications.
• Knowledge and understanding of agency and company policies, procedures, and Infrastructure’s Standard Construction Operating Procedures (SCOPs).
• Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to maintain accuracy while managing multiple priorities and requests.
• Proficiently in Microsoft Office and related project documentation software.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and extended hours as required by project needs.
• Valid driver’s license is required.

Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related education is preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in construction inspection and construction management for infrastructure projects preferred.
• Certifications from the Society of Asphalt Technologists (SAT), Traffic Control Coordinator (TCC), American Concrete Institute (ACI), and Certified Concrete Testing Technician (CCTC) are preferred but not required.
• OSHA 30-Hour or 10-Hour Construction Safety, Fall Protection, Confined Space, and Permit-Required Confined Space Entry training is desired.
• Various NICET certification levels will be considered, including NICET Level II, Level III, and Level IV.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and climb for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Ability to safely lift and up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
• Ability to safely traverse active construction sites, including uneven terrain, excavations, and temporary structures, while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). 
• Ability to climb ladders, navigate stairs, and access construction work areas as needed.
• Ability to perform field inspections requiring bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle and travel to project sites throughout Central and Southern New Jersey.
• Ability to visually inspect construction work and read plans, specifications, and field documentation.
• Ability to wear and properly use required safety equipment, including hard hats, safety glasses, high-visibility vests, and protective footwear.
