Construction Safety Advisor – Commercial / Civil Construction

Location: Brownsville, TX

Job Type: Full-Time / Temporary

Pay Rate: Depends on experience and certification

We are seeking an experienced Construction Safety Advisor to support safety operations across commercial and civil construction projects . This role is responsible for promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and project-specific safety standards, conducting field inspections, identifying hazards, and partnering with project teams to reduce risk and prevent workplace incidents.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in commercial construction as well as civil construction environments , including site work, utilities, excavation, concrete, roadway, drainage, and infrastructure-related projects.

• Monitor daily construction activities to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations , company safety policies, and client/project-specific safety requirements.
• Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments on active commercial and civil construction projects.
• Identify unsafe acts or conditions and work with project management and field supervision to implement corrective actions immediately.
• Assist with the development, review, and enforcement of site-specific safety plans , Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and pre-task plans.
• Lead and support new hire safety orientations, toolbox talks, weekly safety meetings, and ongoing safety training for employees and subcontractors.
• Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and enforce safe work practices across all trades and crews.
• Monitor and support safety compliance for high-risk activities, including:
• Fall protection and elevated work
• Excavation and trenching
• Heavy equipment operations
• Traffic control and work zone safety
• Crane and rigging operations
• Utility installation and underground work
• Lockout/tagout and electrical safety
• Hot work and fire prevention
• Confined space entry, when applicable
• Investigate accidents, near misses, injuries, and property damage incidents; prepare reports and assist with root cause analysis and corrective action plans.
• Maintain accurate safety documentation including inspection logs, training records, incident reports, and compliance paperwork.
• Partner with project managers, superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, and field personnel to address safety concerns and continuously improve jobsite safety performance.
• Support compliance with owner, general contractor, municipal, and project-specific safety programs .
• Stay current on OSHA standards, construction safety regulations, and industry best practices related to commercial and civil construction.

• High school diploma or GED required; degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Health & Safety , or a related field preferred.
• Minimum 3+ years of construction safety experience , preferably in commercial and/or civil construction .
• Strong knowledge of OSHA standards , hazard recognition, and construction safety best practices.
• Experience working around multiple scopes of work such as:
• Commercial building construction
• Site preparation and earthwork
• Concrete and structural work
• Utilities and underground installations
• Roadway, drainage, and civil infrastructure
• Ability to conduct field inspections, incident investigations, safety audits, and employee training.
• Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to interact professionally with laborers, operators, foremen, subcontractors, and management.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety documentation/reporting systems.
• Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and adapt in fast-paced construction environments.

• OSHA 30 Construction required or strongly preferred
• CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) preferred
• First Aid / CPR / AED Certification
• Additional certifications in excavation/trenching, fall protection, scaffold safety, confined space, traffic control, crane safety, or NFPA 70E are a plus

• Ability to walk active jobsites for extended periods
• Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions
• Ability to climb ladders, navigate uneven terrain, trenches, and elevated work areas
• Ability to lift up to 25–50 lbs as needed
• Must be able to wear required PPE at all times on site

• Primarily based on active commercial and civil construction jobsites
• Exposure to noise, dust, moving equipment, elevated work areas, excavation zones, and outdoor weather conditions
• May require travel between project sites depending on business needs
