Under general supervision, performs journeyman work in the maintenance and repair of school buses and other automotive equipment of the School System Transportation Department. Work involves identifying, diagnosing, and repairing malfunctions in transportation vehicles and equipment, testing equipment for compliance with safety standards; and operating specialized power tools to recondition complete sub‑assemblies. Responsible for checking lighting and wiring mechanisms for proper function; and performing engine and other sub‑assembly checks. See Job DescriptionPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Service all district vehicles according to Transportation Department guidelines as directed Provides accurate, current maintenance records as assigned. Diagnose minor and frequently occurring mechanical problems. Removes, replaces, and reassembles transmissions, clutches, fuel, oil & water pumps, generators and other parts of the engine and suspension system. Repairs and replaces damaged vehicle body parts Tests electrical systems and makes necessary repairs Rotates, aligns, and balances wheels Submits requisitions for repair parts to the transportation supervisor. Assists in the control of inventory levels of parts, supplies, and equipment Keeps the service area clean and free of fire, fire hazards, and dangerous working conditions Keeps up to date on changes and requirements of serving a school bus fleet Maintains a good working relationship between drivers and other transportation personnel. Drives school bus routes as assigned. Reports to and confers with the Transportation Supervisor concerning vehicles, fuel, oil, parts, equipment, and supplies. Assists the Transportation Supervisor with assignments as necessary. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE (Minimum Qualifications) Any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described within this job description Be at least 18 years of age 5 years demonstrated success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring an understanding of and proficiency at automotive mechanical repair, including diesel engines. Experience on repair of school buses or heavy duty trucks preferred. Hold a valid Oregon Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) - or have ability to obtain Holds or is able to obtain an Oregon school bus driver certificatePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum one year experience performing vehicle maintenance and repairs in a transportation services environment Trained in performing school bus repairs including brakes, tune‑up, drive train, gas, and diesel engines and all other repair duties necessary to maintain a school bus fleet Ability to perform routine computer functions, including the use of email and Microsoft Word Bilingual candidates are encouraged to applyCOMPENSATION
