About the Position

Job Title: RN - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Cardiac Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 1 year of Cardiac Telemetry experience or PCU experience. License: Registered Nurse license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring skills Description: Community-based hospital in an urban area. 351 licensed beds. No Trauma Designation. Teaching Client. Chest Pain Center. Stroke Center. Unit has 18 beds with an average daily census of 18. Patient types include general medical patients requiring continuous monitoring of cardiac, respiratory, hemodynamic, and neurologic status. Conditions treated include NSTEMI, status post STEMI, cardiac interventional procedures, electrophysiology procedures, thoracic surgery, heart failure, and post-stroke management. Also treats general, vascular, or immediate thoracic surgical patients requiring continuous cardiac, respiratory or hemodynamic support. Pharmacological titration of cardiac anti-arrhythmic drips is common. Post-operative care includes day 2 management post open heart surgery. Handles respiratory failure requiring medium or high-flow oxygen devices or non-invasive positive pressure ventilation. Patient ratios are typically 1:3 or 1:4 depending on interventions. CNA support is available on the unit. Charge nurse available for guidance. Collaborates with a Rapid Response Team and has respiratory therapists available 24/7. Telemetry monitoring is part of the RN's responsibilities. Electronic medical records managed via a specified system. The unit includes capabilities for arterial lines and invasive blood pressure monitoring. If floating is required, the RN may work within all intermediate care and medical-surgical units with a maximum of 4 patients per shift. Unit culture emphasizes a positive, team-focused environment.
