Duties Description Auditors perform systematic examinations and appraisals of the accounting records and financial affairs of various organizations and operations to ensure compliance with laws, rules, regulations, and contracts; determine the ability of the organization to conduct its programs efficiently and effectively; and evaluate internal controls and practices. Employees will need to apply professional accounting and auditing standards and principles. Conducts risk assessments of allegations or indications of potential fraud, as well as audits/examinations of potential fraud. Assists law enforcement and administrative agencies in pursuing matters of potential fraud.

Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive Qualifications for appointment under the NY HELPS Program:To be appointed to this position as an Auditor Trainee 1 you must have:- Bachelor's or higher degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation.OR- Bachelor's or higher degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses.To be appointed to this position as an Auditor Trainee 2, you must have:- All requirements for appointment to the Auditor trainee 1.AND- One year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis, and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles.OR- Master's or higher degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation.To be appointed to this position as an Auditor 1, you must:- Be reachable for appointment on the current PCO - Select Titles eligible list.OR - All requirements for appointment to Auditor trainee 2.AND- Two years of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles.OR- Master's or higher degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation and one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles.OR- A currently valid Certified Public Accountant license and registration issued by New York State.Competitive Minimum Qualifications:You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title, eligible under the 55 b/c program, or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.Transfer:For 70.1 transfer to an Auditor 1, salary grade (SG-18), you must have one year of permanent competitive, or 55-b/55-c service in an approved title for transfer allocated to an SG-16 or above. SG-12 or above for a Trainee 1, SG-14 or above for a Trainee 2, depending on qualifications.If approved for transfer appointment, you must also meet the special requirement below:- 24 credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation. Depending on qualifications, you may be required to serve a 1 or 2-year traineeship that leads to the full level SG-18 position.Traineeship salary information: The position may be filled at the Auditor Trainee 1 equated to SG-14 ($53,764), Auditor Trainee 2 equated to SG-16 ($59,994), or full performance Auditor 1 SG-18 ($66,951) based on the candidate's education, experience, and previous state service. Salary is nonnegotiable. Candidates hired at the trainee level will be advanced to the full performance Auditor 1 SG-18 following successful completion of the traineeship.
