Laboratory Technician

This position is with the Analytical Services Unit in Bureau of Habitat. The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for:

  • Assisting with data collection, entry, reporting, and document management for studies related to contaminants in fish and wildlife tissues.
  • Prepare interim and draft laboratory reports.
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness performing such tasks as glassware washing, benchtop and hood cleaning, and maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies and chemicals.
  • Dissect and homogenize fish samples.
  • Prepare laboratory samples by lipid extraction and florisil chromatography cleanup to enable the laboratory analysis of fish and wildlife samples for chemical contaminants, especially PCBs and organochlorine pesticides.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Satisfactory completion of 60 semester credit hours of college coursework which includes at least 18 semester credit hours in biology, chemistry, physics, health science or science technology; OR
  • Two (2) years of satisfactory experience in either a laboratory or a clinical setting performing technical laboratory test and procedures; OR
  • Satisfactory equivalent combination of options 1 and 2, equaling 2 years. College study will be credited in six-month segments, with 15 semester credit hours equaling six months. Credits must include at least 18 semester credit hours in biology, chemistry, physics, health science, or science technology.

Additional Comments:

  • This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2027, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
  • Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds.
