Cafeteria Worker (hourly/part-time)

Cafeteria General Worker

To assist in the preparation and service of quality food to students and staff in a quick and pleasant manner. Collect cafeteria funds and operate cash register.

Other duties may be assigned.

o Prepares, serves, and replenishes food according to a planned menu and under the instructions of the cafeteria manager or a cook.

o Courteously serves food with accuracy and speed while adhering to portion control, safety, sanitation and food appearance.

o Record temperatures of food and holding equipment to meet HAACP regulations.

o Effectively complete cashiering duties as needed using a computerized system.

o Observe meals for completeness as required by Federal Regulations.

o Removes food from the serving line at end of meals, counting and recording the amount of leftovers.

o Assists with the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment, work tables, walls and floors to insure cleanliness and sanitation conditions are met in all work areas assigned.

o Records all inventory removed from storerooms, refrigerators and freezers.

o Stores food in designated areas, utilizing knowledge of temperature and food spoilage guidelines.

o Stores food in refrigerators after covering, labeling and dating all items: properly discards outdated food items.

o Receives and stores food and supplies according to established procedures of the cafeteria unit.

o Attends relevant training classes, workshops, and meetings as requested or required to develop and improve knowledge and skills.

o Reports inferior quality of food or faulty equipment to the cafeteria manager.

o Maintains high standards of safety and sanitation in the kitchen during preparation, production and cleaning according to the guidelines established by the U.S.D.A, Delaware Department of Health, and district HACCP plans.

o Maintains a good working relationship with parents, students, teachers and administration on all aspects of school nutrition services.

o Maintains a healthy atmosphere with all fellow employees. Communicates effectively with others.

o Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

o Follows Nutrition Services dress code.

o Assist in kitchen operation as necessary.

High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to add and subtract six digit numbers and multiply and divide with numbers through six digits. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money. Ability to operate a cash register and adding machine.

Ability to apply common sense, understanding to carry out detailed, but basic written or oral instructions.

Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students, and have the ability to plan own work schedule and to direct helpers under his/her supervision. Ability to perform job and communicate in a noisy environment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education Policies.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as milk crates, frozen foods, canned food, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.

The employee has a greater than average risk of getting minor injury such as cut or burns while performing the duties of this job.
