In this role you will be responsible for developing cost effective, practical geotechnical engineering designs and construction solutions for our clients. This immediate need requires applicants to have strong technical design skills with communication and organizational skills to work on projects and act as a technical resource for the team.This is an intermediate-level position based primarily in the office with expectations of conducting field visits and assist with field programs when required.Our people are our most valuable asset. The DPG is a truly international network that, in addition to planning regional and local activities, really gives a voice to our DPs globally.As a Stantec Employee we welcome you to Find your People in this internal network of bright minds and engaged colleagues.Your Key ResponsibilitiesWorking on a variety of small to large projects in diverse areas such as transportation & infrastructure, power, mining, residential, commercial, and industrial developmentsSupervising field staff working on testing such as borehole drilling & test pit excavations, laboratory testing, construction site review, rock anchor testing, slope stability assessments (rock and soil)Designing monitoring and instrumentation programs, including the installation and operation of geotechnical instrumentation such as piezometers, inclinometers, settlement plates, shape acceleration arrays and other geotechnical instrumentsManaging geotechnical investigations, including field coordination with subcontractors, preparing laboratory testing schedules, documenting testing results, and budget managementEngineering design and assessment of geological and/or geotechnical systems including deep and shallow foundation design, slope stability assessment, settlement analysis, soil improvement, etc.Developing project scopes, budgets, staffing, and schedules as part of proposal preparationPreparing and writing proposals, technical reports, and memorandumsPreparing project specifications, specifications, construction documents, and drawingsManaging and interacting with clientsPerforming other general field and office related duties as requiredYour CapabilitiesSelf-starter who enjoys working in a team environmentStrong technical skill setProficiency in soil mechanics, rock mechanics, mining, tunnelling, and numerical modelling is considered an assetDemonstrated experience working on projects in the transportation sector including design of bridges, rail systems and cut and fill for transportation corridorsProficient with geotechnical software applications and Microsoft Excel as a tool for data collation, reduction and numerical analysisAbility to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thinkingDemonstrated ability to multi-task and to work towards maintaining project deliverable schedulesStrong oral and written communication skillsBi-lingual (English/French) communication skills are considered an assetEducation and ExperienceMaster’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering with specific emphasis on advanced soil mechanics and numerical analysisBachelor’s degree in civil/Geological Engineering from a recognized university.Minimum of 8 years of experience in geotechnical engineering is required.Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing with the Professional Engineers Ontario association or eligible for registration if transferring from another province.Valid Canadian driver’s license with access to a vehicle.Ability to live and work in Canada.Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
