Development Director

Description

WNCSource is seeking a Development Director to lead fundraising, donor relations, marketing, communications, and public relations for our nonprofit organization serving four Western North Carolina counties.

The Development Director will develop and implement fundraising strategies, cultivate donor and community relationships, pursue public and private funding opportunities, coordinate fundraising campaigns and events, and oversee donor stewardship and engagement. The Director will also lead organizational communications, including website and social media content, public relations, marketing strategy and messaging, and coordination with external marketing partners.

This position works closely with the Executive and Senior Leadership Teams and program staff to advance agency priorities and resource needs, represents WNCSource within the community, and supervises one development staff member.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a diversified fundraising program, including annual and monthly giving, grants, special events, and business and civic partnerships.
• Cultivate and steward donors and prospective donors and support Board fundraising initiatives.
• Oversee the Bloomerang donor database and online giving systems.
• Develop and coordinate communications, marketing, public relations, and community outreach.
• Oversee external marketing partners and organizational messaging.
• Participate in strategic planning and collaborate across the organization to advance agency priorities.
• Supervise and support development staff and coordinate volunteers and interns as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
• Minimum three years of progressive experience in fundraising, development, nonprofit management, communications, or a related field.
• Experience with federal, state, and foundation grant writing and administration.
• Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant development, or resource development.
• Strong communication, writing, relationship-building, organizational, and project management skills.
• Experience with donor CRM systems; Bloomerang experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record.
• Ability to work occasional evenings, early mornings, or weekends and travel overnight as needed.
• Successful completion of a background check.

Requirements

Education & Training

• Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field, combined with a minimum of three (3) years of management experience.
• Alternative: Master's Degree in Business, Public Administration, Social Science, or a related field from an accredited institution.

Experience

• A minimum of three (3) years of dedicated, professional fundraising and development experience, with a proven track record of securing major gifts, managing campaigns, and writing successful grant proposals.
