Applications Engineer

Job Title: Applications Engineer Location: Joliet, IL Core Responsibilities Design & Development: Translate project requirements and mechanical system specifications into effective Building Automation Systems (BAS) or Direct Digital Control (DDC) solutions. Control Strategy Engineering: Develop control sequences, points lists, network architecture, and system layouts for equipment such as AHUs, VAVs, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, heat pumps, and central plant systems. Component Selection: Choose controllers, sensors, actuators, and other control hardware to meet performance and integration needs. Documentation: Create submittals, bills of materials, control diagrams, and technical project documentation. Integration & Protocols: Assist with integrations using open protocols like BACnet and Modbus. Support & Troubleshooting: Provide technical support, troubleshoot application or system issues, and assist with programming, graphics, startup, and commissioning. Coordination: Work closely with project managers, programmers, technicians, customers, and consulting engineers to ensure solutions meet project goals. Skills & Experience Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of commercial HVAC equipment, sequences of operation, and control strategies. Software/Systems Skills: Experience with BAS platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Schneider EcoStruxure, Siemens Desigo, Johnson Controls Metasys, or other industry-standard systems. Design Tools: Familiarity with Microsoft Visio, AutoCAD, or similar for creating control diagrams and layouts. Problem-Solving & Communication: Ability to read mechanical drawings, specifications, and control schematics; strong technical communication skills.
