For More Information, Visit Research Project This fellowship provides a doctorate-level trainee with an immersive, practice-focused experience in population-based cancer prevention and control programs, combining applied learning with sustained mentorship from senior scientists and public health advisors within the DCPC Comprehensive Cancer Control Branch (CCCB). Activities Include Participating in research studies to inform implementation of evidence-based interventions addressing risk factors for preventable cancers, early detection and treatment, survivorship, and improving outcomes for cancer survivors. Collecting and analyzing data, collaborating with public health professionals, and disseminating findings through peer-reviewed scientific publications and presentations. Gaining experience preparing public health practice technical packages for comprehensive cancer control programs. Participating in professional development activities focused on science communication including peer-reviewed manuscripts and oral presentations, stakeholder engagement, and translation of evidence into public health practice. This educational opportunity is designed to complement your academic background and foster growth in areas aligned with CDC’s mission. You will not supervise staff, manage budgets, or act as a federal representative. Project assignments are appropriate for an education and training program and do not involve employment-related responsibilities. Appointment Length The appointment will initially be for 1 year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC and is contingent on the availability of funds. Level of Participation The appointment is full time. Participant Stipend Stipend rates may vary based on numerous factors, including opportunity, location, education, and experience. Citizenship Requirements This opportunity is available to U.S. citizens only. ORISE Information This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. Qualifications The qualified candidate should have received a doctoral degree in one of the relevant fields. Degree must have been received within the past five years. Preferred Skills Educational training or professional experience in the following areas is helpful: behavioral and social science theories, evidence based public health interventions, population based public health practice, implementation and evaluation science, program evaluation, mixed methods research and evaluation, applied prevention research, systematic literature reviews, data analysis, data interpretation and visualization, scientific writing, and scientific communication, statistical programming and analysis using software such as SAS, SUDAAN, and R.
