Key Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on support with activities of daily living (meals, dressing, hygiene, personal care)
• Teach and reinforce essential life skills such as cooking, shopping, and household tasks
• Administer medications and assist with health routines (paid training provided)
• Accompany individuals to medical appointments and community outings
• Encourage social engagement, independence, and participation in meaningful activities
• Accurately document services and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team
• Respond to challenges with patience, respect, and sensitivity

Qualifications

Work Schedule

• Full-time & Part time, including weekends and holidays as needed.
• Shift 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Qualifications & Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required
• New York State Driver's License is required
• Willingness to complete and maintain required certifications with (a condition of employment):
• AMAP (Medication Administration)
• CPR / First Aid
• SCIP-R (Crisis Intervention)
• Attendance at all scheduled trainings is mandatory
• Strong communication skills, reliability, and a compassionate, can-do attitude

Training, Attendance & Accountability

• Maintaining certifications is essential to performing DSP duties. Employees are responsible for:
• Monitoring certification expiration dates
• Tracking and attending required trainings on time
• Communicating proactively with supervisors if support is needed
• Failure to maintain required credentials may result in:
• Removal from schedule until compliance is restored
• Demotion to Relief status
• Termination if requirements are not met within required timeframes

Preferred Experience (Bonus, Not Required)

• 1+ year experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities
• Experience in residential or healthcare settings
• Strong teamwork, documentation, and organizational skills

Physical & Work Environment

• Active, hands-on role requiring standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and transferring individuals
• Must be able to see, hear, speak clearly, and adjust focus
• Comfort with physical care and fast-paced, active shifts
• Shifts may include mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays
• Strong sense of responsibilitycommitment to remain on duty until relieved by the next team member
