Senior Power Systems Engineer

Role Overview This position is an Electrical Power Systems Engineer who will lead and conduct technical studies focused on transmission reliability, interconnection, and integration for various generation types, providing analysis and recommendations to improve system performance and comply with standards. Responsibilities Lead technical studies including steady‑state power flow, transient stability, short‑circuit, and electromagnetic transient (EMT) analysis. Develop and benchmark complex power system models using industry‑standard tools such as Siemens PSS/e and PSCAD. Use, adapt, and develop Python scripts and third‑party APIs to automate data processing, enhance results visualization, and build/assess customized models. Evaluate power system performance and compliance with regional planning standards (e.g., NERC TPL, MOD, PRC, BAL, FAC) and other industry requirements (e.g., IEEE 2800). Conduct interconnection studies for inverter‑based resources including variable wind, solar, and utility‑scale battery systems. Perform forensic analysis of power system events, troubleshoot performance issues, and provide recommendations to prevent future incidents. Ensure technical deliverables and project timelines are met while maintaining EPS’s high standards for quality and practicality. Identify technical risks in study results and propose mitigation strategies. Prepare technical reports and present findings to engineering, management, and business stakeholders. Qualifications Must be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship not provided. Ability and willingness to complete a pre‑employment drug test. BSEE from an ABET‑accredited institution; a graduate degree in power and energy is highly valued. Professional Engineering (PE) licensure preferred; EIT at the tail‑end of experience and actively pursuing licensure acceptable. Minimum 4 years of experience in power system modeling, simulation, and analysis within a utility or consulting environment; significant utility, consulting, vendor, or research lab experience required. Location: Bremerton, WA office with commute options; hybrid configuration may be considered for the right candidate. Required Skills Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Proficiency in power system modeling software. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Preferred Skills Experience with Python programming. Familiarity with industry standards and regulations. Knowledge of renewable energy systems. Compensation Base Salary: $100,000 – $175,000 per year depending on experience.
