Dentist - Pediatrician (Per-Diem)

Pediatrician Position

We are an FQHC community health center dedicated to embodying the values central to American Indian cultures. This includes respect for our patients, acknowledgement of the whole person, and a focus on working together to ensure health for the individual, and therefore the community. This position is responsible for focusing on the health of infants, children and adolescents and young adults. Diagnosing, treating, and helping prevent children's diseases and injuries. Pediatrician will detect and manage physical, behavioral and developmental issues that affect children. Assist in improving the access and quality of care at SDAIHC.

Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to perform all job related activities as outlined below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary Functions:

1. Examine newborns and young children and assess their physical condition and health
2. Prescribe medications and provide instructions for their administration
3. Educating parents on how to administer medications to their children and how to spot signs of illness in their own children
4. Prescribe and interpret appropriate lab tests when needed
5. Administering vaccinations, including flu shots and other types of immunizations as required by state law
6. Clearly record all patient data, including history, exams performed, past and current medications, vaccination information, diagnosis, treatment plans and prognosis, in corresponding chart
7. Record medical histories and examine young people from birth to twenty years of age; order diagnostic tests and interpret results to help determine medical condition
8. Discuss test results and explain treatments or medical procedures with patients and family members
9. Recommend and manage treatment, medication, therapy, vaccinations and additional specialized medical care to prevent or treat diseases, injuries and illnesses; monitor progress and conditions and revise treatments as needed
10. Managing children's chronic illnesses, such as asthma or diabetes, by working with the child's family and other medical specialists to develop an appropriate treatment plan
11. Advise and educate patients, parents and members of the community in regards to activity, diet, hygiene and other disease prevention methods
12. Establishing a rapport with patients and their families by providing emotional support and answer any questions they may have.
13. Design and implement community healthcare programs to aid in the physical and mental development of adolescents and children
14. Coordinate, direct and supervise activities of therapists, assistants, nurses, and other support staff; refer patients to a specialist or other physician when warranted
15. Verify the receipt of vaccinations for school and other purposes
16. Write authorizations for in school services of para-professionals and other aides

1. Treat children with growth and development concerns
2. Ensure that children with special needs receive the appropriate classroom care
3. Keep and update patients' records
4. Keep abreast of new research and best practices in the field of pediatrics
5. Attend professional educational seminars and conferences
6. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

1. American Board of Pediatricians certification, or board eligible required.
2. Residency or fellowship in pediatrics or pediatric sub-specialty required
3. M.D. or D.O. required

1. Licensed to practice as MD or DO in the state of California
2. 2-3 years minimum pediatric experience required.
3. Experience in a medical staff leadership role, such as medical staff department or committee chairman, preferred.

Preferred:

• Bilingual (English and Spanish) with experience serving a multinational, multiracial population
• Experience in supervisory and leadership roles
• Experience with learning and developmental delay disorders

Special Conditions of Employment:

1. Has clean driving record and insurance as required by the state
2. Has reliable transportation
3. Current BLS and CPR certification on file with the Human Resources Department.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Minimum six (6) years of acute care, hospital-based clinical experience in area of intended practice
2. Demonstrated knowledge of acceptable professional standards and practices
3. Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals at all levels to facilitate the physician peer review process
4. Ability to review, summarize and analyze medical records
5. Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, EMR, Microsoft word and basic PC skills
6. Public speaking experience, in person and utilizing virtual technology.
7. Experience coaching and educating staff and peers.
8. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
9. Excellent time management skills
10. Effective interpersonal skills.
11. Able to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals
12. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all during the course of work.
13. Bilingual in Spanish/English a plus

Physical and Mental Requirements:

1. Able to lift/move up to 50 pounds, move from place to place.
2. Able to stand, bend and reach for prolonged periods.
3. Ability to do math, organize and prioritize workload, work effectively and efficiently under stress
4. Ability to supervise, multitask, understand and follow instructions
5. Ability to proficiently read, write, speak and understand English
