Registered Nurse Surgical/Transplant

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Surgical Specialty Specialty: Surgical/Transplant Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours guaranteed Experience: Minimum of 1 year acute care surgical floor experience preferred; Stepdown/PCU experience preferred; Transplant experience preferred. License: Current RN License Certifications: Current Basic Life Support certification Must-Have: Must have acute care surgical floor experience; Preceptor and charge experience preferred. Description: Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; notes all changes in physician orders on assigned patients. Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes physiological manifestations of patients, and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with family and patient in sharing care plan while in the hospital and at time of discharge. Informs patient and family of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned. The unit cares for post-surgical kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant patients. They also care for pre-transplant patients who are being evaluated for transplant during their inpatient stay. Patients require close monitoring for infection, rejection, and timely medication delivery. Nurses will either work on medical/surgical or stepdown patients depending on the availability of nurses. If ICU nurses are floated down, they will work with stepdown patients based on acuity and skill set. Required skills and experience include knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors. Some computer skills are required. Education requirements include an Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program. Preferred education is a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher from a Board Approved Program.
