Site Technician II

The Site Tech II is responsible for small projects, mowing, weedeating, seeding, planting, weed control, equipment maintenance, snow, and ice control, asphalt or concrete work, brick orstonework, demolition, grading and/or site cleanup tasks. As wellas, all the cultivation and care of the landscaping and grounds ofLiberty University. Operates lawn mowers, and other relatedequipment. Any other duties as assigned. Working independently andexercising good judgment and discretion. Essential Functions and Responsibilities As Essential Personnel, you are expected to be available in theevent of school closings, delays, shutdowns, and any emergenciesincluding clean up required because of severe weather incidents.Grounds employees are essential to the overall success ofCommencement (May) and Orientation and Move-in (August) weekendevents and special events that are scheduled in facilitiesthroughout the year and must be available to work schedule andunscheduled hours as emergency needs arise. Performs snow removalactivities as assigned, such as shoveling, salting, etc. Reports to work at the required time and performs duties asassigned by the Grounds Supervisor or Site Technician III/Lead. Responsible for wearing the appropriate Personal ProtectiveEquipment (PPE) while operating Grounds related equipment includingbut not limited to; protective eye wear, ear protection, hard hat,gloves, steel-toed boots, respirators/ masks, reflective safetyvests, and sunscreen. Responsible for wearing a harness with a lanyard and other PPEif operating aerial lifts to perform & complete assignedjobs. Works with 2-3 employees. Performs planting and related activities. Performs routine lawn maintenance including grass cutting, lawnedging, pulling weeds, and other routine lawn-maintenanceactivities. Uses lawn mower and related equipment. Provides seasonal lawn care, such as spring and fallclean-up. Moves materials and equipment and performs related duties toassist in landscaping and hardscaping. Digs holes and trenches and excavates for landscaping andhardscaping using picks and shovels or related equipment. Hauls or spreads topsoil, gravel, sand, mulch, or relatedmaterials using wheelbarrows and rakes. Hand -finishes grade, and apply seed, straw, or sod. Applies chemicals under the direction of a licensed chemicalapplicator. Maintains assigned equipment and notifies LandscapingSupervisor of needed repairs. Responds politely to customerinquiries and projects a professional image. Operates light/ heavy-duty vehicles, riding mowers, backhoes,and push/ riding mowers, rakes, shovels, blowers, sprayers, chainsaws, hydraulic boom, small tools and any other equipmentassociated with turf care. For a project to be considered completed, the Site TechnicianII must ensure that the project has been fully inspected; allequipment, tools, and materials have been secured and put away; allblockades, ropes, and tape have been removed. Performs Grounds duties including weeding, mowing, trimming,edging, planting and other related ground maintenanceactivities. Responsible for proper and safe use and maintenance of allequipment, tools, and chemicals related to the Grounds team. Works closely with the entire Landscaping/ Grounds Teams on allphases of ground maintenance including weeding, mulching, and allother related tasks. Work with Grounds team, as assigned, when needed to support newplantings and plant removals. Works on special projects as assigned. All other duties as assigned. Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, process,products, services and leading industry performancebenchmarks. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fosteringLU’s mission. Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies This position requires a high school degree or GED. Minimum of 3+years of related experience preferred, or an equivalent combinationof education and experience. State Driver’s license and insurablewith company’s agent. The successful individual will have a workingknowledge of grounds maintenance, and equipment operations.Pressure washing, asphalt, concrete, construction, lawn care,landscape and/or hardscape experience is preferred. Must be able tounderstand and follow instructions, and work under limitedSupervision. Must be able to work well with the public andco-workers and present a positive attitude. Clean and professionalappearance. Must be courteous, detailed oriented, self-motivated,diligent, trustworthy, possess strong organizational skills andwell-developed communication skills. Must be able to lift up to 75+pounds and perform duties of the ground’s maintenance andlandscaping outdoors in typical Virginia Climate. This positionmight require the use of and operation of aerial lifts or bewilling and able obtain aerial lift certifications, operate, andwork from various aerial lifts and heights. Have or be able toobtain a chemical spray certification. Desire to work with a teamto accomplish goals. Urgency to grow and improve. Must have basicknowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safetyprecautions. Certifications obtained while employed by LibertyUniversity at the expense of the employer will be reimbursed backto the University upon voluntary termination (resignation) for thefirst 12 months after acquiring it. Proof of a valid Virginiadriver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insuranceis required.
