Requirements The Nurse House Supervisor oversees hospital operations during assigned shifts, ensuring optimal patient care, staff coordination, and compliance with healthcare standards. This role requires strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage hospital-wide nursing functions effectively. The Nursing House Supervisor serves as a professional role model, as a caregiver, mentor, teacher and resource for peers and other providers. The Nursing Supervisor role is divided into two classifications . To ensure compensation aligns with each nurse’s verified competencies, required certification, and ability to independently cover designated clinical areas. Each classification reflects increasing scope, responsibility, and clinical independence. Nursing Supervisor I Licensed RN who demonstrated the competencies, experience, and certification required to independently supervise and provide clinical support in two (2) of the following units: Medical-Surgical, Emergency Units or Obstetrics (OB) Unit. Nursing Supervisor II Licensed RN who demonstrated the competencies, experience, and certification required to independently supervise and provide clinical support in two (2) of the following units: Medical-Surgical, Emergency Units or Obstetrics (OB) Unit. Nurse Supervisor II has an increase to their base compensation in the amount of 10%. Duties/Responsibilities Assure quality of care and patient safety by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; supervising other members of the nursing team to ensure that standards of patient care are met; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following facility standards of care set by the State Board of Nursing and other governing agency regulations. Possess knowledge and skills regarding nursing principles and practice. Nursing Supervisor is the leadership on the floor and responsible for guiding staff as needed. Must be a good steward of SMMC finances. Appropriately manage staff in relation to patient census and place employees on call or low census as needed. Ensure appropriate staffing levels by coordinating shift coverage and responding to urgent staffing needs. Act as a liaison between nursing staff, physicians, and hospital administration. Address patient concerns, complaints, and escalations to ensure high-quality care. Address staffing shortages, coordinates shift coverage, and approval last‑minute schedule adjustments. Managing hospital operations, including admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring efficient patient flow. Collaborate with emergency department, surgical teams, and inpatient units to optimize hospital operations. Monitor bed availability and coordinate patient placement based on acuity and staffing levels. Serve as the point of contact for administrative decisions during off‑hours. Ensure adherence to hospital policies, state regulations, and accreditation standards. Maintain accurate documentation of incidents, staffing adjustments and patient care concerns. Participate in audit preparation and compliance reviews. Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and operational efficiency. Lead hospital response during critical incidents, including staffing shortages, patient emergencies, and facility issues. Act as the decision maker for urgent operational concerns when senior leadership is unavailable. Coordinate with security and emergency response teams in case of safety threats or disasters. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety protocols, and regulatory standards. Assist in emergency situations, provide clinical guidance and decision-making support. Provide mentorship and guidance to nursing staff, fostering professional development Maintain accurate documentation and incident reports as needed. Ensure high-quality patient care by monitoring nursing practices and adherence to protocols. Respond to escalated patient concerns, complaints, and urgent medical situations. Assist in emergency situations, provide clinical guidance and decision‑making support. Ensure compliance with infections control, safety protocols, and regulatory standards. Make nursing decisions within the scope of licensure and according to established hospital policies and procedures. Responsible for the training and orientation of new staff within the Med‑Surg and OB Unit. Other Able to work weekends, holidays, and shift rotations as needed. Education and Experience Graduate of an approved School of Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience preferred. Minimum of one (1) year supervisor or charge experience preferred. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Current Registered Nurse (RN) Licensure in the State of Idaho or approved compact state licensure required. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required upon hire NRP & ACLS Certification are required within six (6) months of date of hire or accepting position. Certification in TNCC and PALS is required within twelve (12) months of date of hire or accepting position. AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring required within two (2) years of accepting position.
