Under the direction of the Food Market Manager, the Food Market Assistant Manager will work in collaboration with volunteers and staff to oversee the day-to-day activities of the food pantry to include distributing food, inventory, stocking of the pantry, picking up donated food and essential non-food items, unloading deliveries, training and supervision of volunteers. Job Responsibilities:
- Represents the food pantry in a courteous and professional manner with donors, volunteers, visitors, clients, and staff. Answers questions and responds to inquiries while maintaining a high level of respect and dignity for neighbors/shoppers.
- Maintains systems and procedures for the ordering, receiving, storing and distribution of all food and related products.
- Helps in maintaining records of in-kind donations, food received and food distributed.
- Receives and unloads food deliveries and assists with stocking shelves.
- Ensures adherence of food distribution requirements to all internal and external needs.
- Trains volunteers on food pantry operational processes, including unloading deliveries, assembling food boxes, stocking shelves, and maintaining inventory.
- Conducts housekeeping to assure that work areas meet standards for cleanliness and that areas are organized, clean, safe, and clutter free.
- Works in a safe manner and complies with all safety rules and procedures.
- Maintains clear professional and personal boundaries.
- Deescalates and resolves neighbor (client/shopper) or volunteer issues and grievances.
- Attend staff and training meetings as directed.
- Performs other duties as assigned within the department.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
- Six (6) months related customer service and/or retail/grocery experience or training;
- Experience with computers including MicroSoft Outlook and Excel
- Ability to operate manual and electronic pallet jack and forklift
- Strong verbal communication skills; ability to converse with diverse populations
- Reliable, self-motivated and shows initiative
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience in a non-profit environment a plus
- Proficient in Spanish a plus
- Ability to support the mission of a Catholic based, non-profit organization
- The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; lift and reach with hands and arms.
- This position requires lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds
