Associate Director of Campaigns
The Affordable Energy Campaign - a project of Multiplier - is a fast-growing advocacy initiative working to reduce electricity costs for California families and ensure the clean energy transition remains affordable, reliable, and equitable. We bring together environmental, environmental justice, consumer, and economic justice organizations to strengthen oversight of investor-owned utilities, curb unnecessary infrastructure spending, and advance policy reforms that protect ratepayers while supporting responsible grid modernization. We seek a strategic, collaborative, and highly organized Associate Director to help drive the execution of one of the most consequential affordability campaigns in the country. The Associate Director will work closely with the Executive Director to help shape strategy, and support coordination across a complex multi-organization coalition, coordinate policy and communications work, strengthen internal systems, support fundraising, and help drive rapid-response efforts. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this role serves as the campaign's senior implementation lead and key strategic partner focused on execution, coordination and forward momentum. The right candidate will be an excellent project manager, a grounded coalition partner, a sharp strategist, and an ego-light team builder who thrives in fast-moving political environments.
Primary Responsibilities
Campaign Management & Strategic Leadership
- Work with the Executive Director to implement overall campaign strategy, integrate policy, communications, political, and organizing insights, and maintain alignment across partners.
- Track and analyze political, regulatory, and utility developments; identify leverage points, risks, and opportunities.
- Support rapid-response operations, coordinating messaging, research, and partner engagement during fast-moving developments.
- Provide high-quality strategic advice, briefing materials, and decision support to the Executive Director.
- Support the coordination of communications, regulatory, policy, and organizing workstreams to ensure narrative discipline, timely engagement across venues, and alignment between all campaign tactics.
- Manage timelines, workplans, workflows, and deliverables across multiple workstreams; ensure consistent forward momentum.
- Review or develop memos, talking points, comments, slide decks, and other written products to maintain accuracy, clarity, and message discipline.
Internal Operations
- Implement day-to-day campaign execution and internal operations, helping translate strategic priorities into concrete plans, timelines, and follow-through across staff, consultants, and partners.
- Maintain internal coordination systems, including calendars, meeting cadences, situational-awareness documents, and communications protocols.
- Support budget tracking, contracts, and other administrative processes in partnership with the Multiplier team.
- Serve as a contact and support coordination and various work streams with its fiscal sponsor, including finance and grants management, contracts, payroll, HR, and legal operations in partnership with the Executive Director and Multiplier team.
- Support the coordination of consultants and contractors as delegated by the Executive Director and ensure high-quality work and alignment with campaign priorities.
Coalition & Stakeholder Coordination
- Build and maintain trusting relationships with environmental, EJ, consumer, labor, research, and advocacy partners.
- Plan and facilitate coalition meetings and working groups; help partners navigate conflict and maintain shared purpose.
- Support internal learning efforts, onboarding, and culture-building to strengthen the coalition's strategic capacity.
- Represent the campaign with policymakers, partners, consultants, and occasionally the press as delegated by the Executive Director.
Fundraising & Funder Support
- Prepare clear and timely updates, memos, and synthesis materials for funder meetings.
- Assist and support the Executive Director with grant proposals, reporting, budget coordination, and funder communications.
