Program CoordinatorWith direction from the Recreation Coordinator, the Program Coordinator provides recreation and leisure opportunities for the community. The position's primary focus consists of the organization, coordination, and supervision of community recreation programs for seniors, adults, and youth, including cultural arts, physical activities, special interest classes, and/or sport programs throughout the year. Responsible for helping find instructors, coaches, and umpires for recreation programs. Occasional evening and weekend work is required to manage programming.Examples of DutiesEssential FunctionsPlans, organizes, and coordinates year-round sports activities for youth and adults, special athletic events, clinics and other leisure programs.Provides instruction and leads activities as necessary.Selects, plans, and implements cultural arts, physical activities and special interest activities.Provides supervision of classes, workshops, and activities for participants in City recreation programs and co-sponsored programs.Responds to public inquiries regarding recreation programs through various communication channels including telephone, email, or social media.Aids in seeking sponsorships for programs, leagues, and special events.Promotes interest and provides information regarding recreation programs to school officials, other recreation officials, community service groups, other City departments, and the public.Additional Duties/ResponsibilitiesAssists with set-up and tear down of events or activities, including moving chairs, tables, bleachers and other equipment, inside or outside Junction City Parks and Recreation facilities.Completes other tasks or projects as assigned by department or City leadership.Typical QualificationsMinimum Required QualificationsAssociates degree in Recreation or Sports Management or a closely related field.One (1) year of experience with recreation programs, including community center programming.A combination of education and experience may be considered as meeting the minimum requirements of the position.Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in Recreation or Sports Management or a closely related field.Licenses and CertificationsValid Driver's License.First Aid and CPR Certification, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.Supplemental InformationKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAbility to communicate using the English language.Knowledge of various activities and implementation in a community center setting.Ability to promote programs and gain community interest.Proficient computer data entry skills, including the use of Civic Rec, Microsoft Office, and any other software utilized by the department.Vision requirements include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentThis position operates in a variety of environments including indoor and outdoor and requires the ability to move between different locations.May be subject to extreme heat or cold.Ability to reach for and use required tools, objects, or equipment.Must frequently sit and stand to perform duties.Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to forty (40) pounds occasionally.Equal Employment Opportunity and Reasonable AccommodationThe City is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.The City is committed to providing equal employment opportunities and reasonable accommodation to qualified applicants and employees with disabilities.
