Senior Accountant

AccountantPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Accountant to lead month-end close, accrual accounting, and financial reporting for our finance team. This role will ensure accurate general ledger maintenance, support audits and compliance, and provide technical accounting expertise particularly for oil and gas operations. The Accountant will partner with operations and finance leadership to deliver timely, GAAP-compliant financial information and drive improvements in accounting processes.Key ResponsibilitiesLead month-end and year-end close activities, including preparing and posting complex journal entries and accrualsOwn reconciliations of general ledger accounts and resolve account variances promptlyPrepare and analyze financial statements, account schedules, and supporting documentation for internal and external stakeholdersSupport external and internal audits by preparing schedules, providing documentation, and responding to auditor requestsApply accrual accounting principles to recognize expenses and revenues appropriately and ensure GAAP complianceManage oil and gas specific accounting tasks such as joint interest billing (JIB), production revenue accounting, royalty and working interest calculations, and lease/asset accountingAssist with budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis to support business planningMaintain and improve internal controls, accounting policies, and process efficiencies to mitigate risk and improve accuracyPartner with cross-functional teams to support capital project accounting, cost tracking, and cost allocationsCoach and mentor junior accounting staff and provide guidance on accounting treatment and best practicesQualificationsBachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferredMinimum of 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong background in accrual accounting and general ledger managementPrior experience in the oil and gas industry or related energy sector accounting preferredDemonstrated expertise in preparing financial statements, account reconciliations, and supporting audit requestsProficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP) and advanced Excel skills; experience with industry systems (e.g., production accounting or JIB software) a plusStrong knowledge of US GAAP and experience with SOX/internal control frameworksExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlinesDetail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently as well as in a team environmentBenefits2 weeks PTO 6 Sick days1 Floating, 10 Holidays3% 401k Matched
