Neuroscience Unit Registered Nurse

Locals within 50 miles accepted at a rate differential--see CDM for local rate. Backfill ASAP start needed. Holiday RTO: No holiday requests, dates may be discussed with manager to determine if the unit is able to accommodate. 36 or 48 hour weeks available, notate on submittal with preference. Prefer 1-2 years Med/Surg experience. BLS (AHA) required, NIHSS required- or be willing to commit to completing the certification prior to start. Michigan RN license required. Every other weekend required. May be asked to float to other Med/Surg units, ICU units, and ED waiting rooms. Nurse to patient ratio 1:4 or 1:5. Equipment utilized: EPIC, Pyxis.

About the Unit: NVU is a 40 bed medical surgical unit specializing in the care of patients with neurological disorders such as stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and other inflammatory disorders of the brain and spinal cord. We have a large spinal surgery population, which includes care for the post-operative neuro-surgery, ortho-surgery, laminectomy, and spinal fusion patients. Our unit also includes six “step-down/telemetry” beds and six bariatric beds allowing us to provide care to a diverse patient population. Last but not least, there is a four bed Neuro Monitoring Unit where we admit seizure patients starting at age 5 in an effort to find the cause of their seizures.
