Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU/Surgical Oncology position at a major academic cancer hospital, requiring 2 years of current acute care experience and ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications.

Details

• Mixed-acuity PCU and Med-Surg unit specializing in surgical oncology
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics
• Surgical oncology diagnoses include breast, thyroid, melanoma, hepatobiliary (liver, pancreas, spleen, biliary tract, neuroendocrine), colorectal, and reconstructive plastics (breast cancer or sarcoma)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio goal of 1:4, may reach 1:5 based on census
• Specialized procedures include chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, oncologic emergencies, cytokine release syndrome management, insulin drips, and heparin drips
• Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
• EMR: Epic (required)
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
• Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs; no set or blocked scheduling
• Floating within scope of practice is required for all travelers
• 16-week contract

Requirements

• Active OH RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience required; experience must be current and consistent within the last 12 months in the applying specialty
• Epic EMR experience required
• Experience with cardiac telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and telemetry monitoring on the unit
• Nursing degree from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• 2 professional references required: at least 1 from a Manager, Director, or formal leadership role (Supervisor); a Charge RN is acceptable as the 2nd reference; no coworker references accepted
• Preferred skills: BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), tracheostomy care

Additional Information

• Oncology nursing experience is preferred but not required
• ONS Chemotherapy certification is preferred
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Former employees are eligible after a 6-month separation from the facility; current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are not eligible
• All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of application and is limited to 7 days or less for the contract duration
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers
• Ohio state fingerprinting is required upon signing the contract and must be completed urgently — candidates outside Ohio may need to drive to an in-state fingerprinting location or will be mailed a fingerprinting packet for immediate completion
• Parking is available for purchase through CampusParc; multiple permit options exist ranging from on-site garage access to budget surface lot options with shuttle service to the medical center
