Certified Nurse Midwife

Job Summary The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) provides exceptional, relationship-based care with a high degree of clinical expertise across the full spectrum of sexual and reproductive health services. The CNM delivers comprehensive care to patients throughout pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, newborn care, family planning, gynecology, and reproductive health, while educating patients and their families to promote wellness, prevent illness, and support informed healthcare decisions. Grounded in patient-centered and trauma-informed care, the CNM is committed to advancing reproductive and social justice principles by fostering inclusive, equitable, and compassionate healthcare experiences for individuals and families of diverse backgrounds. Duties and Responsibilities Midwifery Services & Clinical Care Provide high-quality, relationship-based patient care in the birth center, patient homes, and wellness clinic settings. Deliver patient care rooted in the midwifery and whole-person wellness model, guided by principles of prevention, informed consent, safety, cultural sensitivity, physiologic birth, appropriate medical intervention, conservative waste management, and cost-effectiveness. Manage the care of patients and families across maternity, newborn, gynecologic, reproductive, and family planning services in accordance with the standards of the American Association of Birth Centers and the policies and clinical guidelines of CHOICES: Memphis Center for Reproductive Health. Conduct comprehensive physical assessments, obtain medical histories, and evaluate patient health needs. Support physiologic birth and newborn transition in alignment with CHOICES’ Birth Center philosophy. Counsel and educate patients and families on wellness, illness prevention, reproductive health, and health maintenance. Full‑Scope Reproductive Health & Wellness Services Provide comprehensive wellness and reproductive healthcare services within the wellness clinic setting to support patients across the lifespan. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care and appropriate referrals for additional healthcare and community resources. Perform wellness clinic services including, but not limited to: Gender‑affirming hormone therapy (HRT) management STI testing and treatment HIV prevention, testing, counseling, and referrals Pap smears and routine gynecologic screenings Menopause counseling and management Birth control counseling and family planning services IUD and contraceptive implant insertion and removal Annual wellness exams and preventive health screenings Prenatal, postpartum, and newborn care Working Hours & Schedule Expectations The Birth Center operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to ensure continuous patient care and support for labor, birth, postpartum, newborn, and reproductive health services. This position requires flexibility in scheduling to meet the clinical and operational needs of the organization. Providers may be scheduled for daytime, evening, overnight, weekend, holiday, and on‑call shifts across birth center, home birth, and wellness clinic settings. Participation in an on‑call rotation is required to support laboring patients, urgent clinical needs, and emergency response coverage. Schedule assignments may vary based on patient volume, staffing needs, and program requirements. Employees are expected to maintain punctuality, reliability, and timely communication regarding scheduling availability and coverage needs. This position includes three (3) scheduled clinic days per week, participation in a 24‑hour on‑call rotation, and weekend on‑call coverage on a rotating basis to support the birth center's 24/7, 365‑day operations. Additional hours or schedule adjustments may be required as needed to support continuity of patient care and organizational operations. Qualifications Degree: Master’s Degree in Nursing with a specialization in Nurse‑Midwifery Licensure, Certification, and /or Registration: Certified Nurse Midwife license and DEA registration in the state of TN 3 years of clinical experience preferred. Some out of hospital birth experiences strongly preferred. Eligibility to practice in the Medicare and Medicaid programs Eligible for malpractice liability insurance Knowledge of nursing and midwifery principles, practices, and procedures Eager to learn other reproductive health services outside of midwifery Willingness to learn and provide patient care to all that is rooted in reproductive and social justice frameworks Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders Eligible or current licensure as a CNM in Tennessee Current NRP and BLS certifications Basic ultrasound skills desirable A commitment to teamwork and partnership; ability to collaborate with care providers and patients Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of CHOICES #J-18808-Ljbffr
