Sr. Accountant

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting and financial reporting functions of the organization, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information while contributing to process improvements and operational efficiency. This role plays a key part in the monthly close process, account reconciliations, financial analysis, inventory accounting, and cost accounting activities.

The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in accounting principles, manufacturing accounting processes, and financial reporting, along with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. This individual will partner with operations and finance leadership to provide accurate financial data that supports sound business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Prepare and record journal entries accurately and timely.
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Maintain general ledger integrity and ensure proper financial statement presentation.
• Support preparation of monthly financial statements and management reporting packages.
• Analyze account fluctuations and provide variance explanations.

Manufacturing & Inventory Accounting

• Support inventory accounting, valuation, and reconciliation activities.
• Assist with cycle counts and physical inventory observations.
• Analyze inventory variances and assist with corrective actions.
• Support standard cost maintenance and bill of material reviews.
• Monitor inventory reserves and manufacturing cost allocations.
• Partner with operations and supply chain teams to ensure accurate inventory reporting.

Cost Accounting Support

• Assist with labor, material, and overhead variance reporting.
• Analyze production costs, scrap, and manufacturing efficiencies.
• Review job costing and product costing information.
• Prepare profitability and margin analyses by product line, customer, or business unit.
• Support annual cost roll updates and standard cost reviews.

Compliance & Audit Support

• Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for external audits.
• Assist with compliance related to internal controls and accounting policies.
• Support tax filings, sales and use tax reporting, and annual financial audits.
• Ensure accounting records comply with GAAP and company policies.

Financial Analysis

• Perform account analysis and identify trends impacting financial performance.
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Develop reports and analyses to support business decisions.
• Prepare ad hoc financial analyses requested by management.

Process Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures and internal controls.
• Assist in implementing automation and efficiency initiatives.
• Support ERP enhancements and reporting improvements.
• Participate in cross-functional projects aimed at improving operational performance.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Experience with month-end close and account reconciliations.
• Financial reporting and analysis.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred

• Manufacturing industry experience.
• Experience with: Inventory accounting, Cost accounting, Standard costing.
• ERP systems such as SAP, Epicor, Infor, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Plex, or NetSuite.
• Public accounting experience.
