Sr. Structural Engineer, Data Center Engineering

The Worldwide Sustainability (WWS) organization capitalizes on Amazon’s scale, speed, ability to build, invent, and simplify a resilient and sustainable company. Key job responsibilities Produce clear and concise documentation such as detailed design specifications, drawings, white papers, wiring schematics and diagrams, and reports. Understand and safeguard implementation of the Global Structural Basis of Design (BoD) by driving standardisation in the data center structural designs. Develop strategic solutions that meet or exceed our quality requirements and fall within our budgetary requirements. Capture requirements and turn aspirational company or customer goals into well‑defined, achievable and testable specifications and solutions. Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to and during innovation and research and development projects. Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify the appropriate electrical equipment. Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions. You are responsible for and conduct the structural design of next generation data center designs. You demonstrate ability to review business cases and analysis models, including total cost of ownership and return on investment to select projects and designs. You might analyze energy efficiency data, collaborate on innovative cooling solutions, or mentor fellow engineers. You'll participate in design reviews, engage with vendors, and contribute to sustainability initiatives that shape our environmental footprint. Basic qualifications 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities, including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities Preferred qualifications Professional Engineering or Architectural License Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, REVIT, BIM 360) Experience with at least one structural analysis/design software (Tekla or others) Experience and detailed understanding of structural design/remediation of new/existing industrial or commercial projects Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.
