Crouse Health is hiring a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to oversee clinical operations, ensure high-quality patient care, and provide strategic leadership within a healthcare organization. Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. Pay Range: $450,000.00 - $550,000.00 / annual.Chief Medical Officer Position Responsibilities:Provides strategic guidance to leadership staff within all areas of responsibility.Develops, plans, and evaluates short, mid and long-term goal setting and goal achievement through facilitation and guidance consistent with the strategic plan.Participates in budgeting, resource allocation, and long-term strategic planning, ensuring financial sustainability while maintaining high-quality care.Creates a data-driven environment of quality and cost improvement and develops systems to review utilization of resources and objectively measure outcomes of care in the inpatient and outpatient settings.Leads the medical staff, supervises clinical services, and ensures that patient care meets state, national, and organizational standards.Proactively communicates with staff and keeps them informed on a regular basis or as needed; updates staff regarding policy changes in specialized areas.Develops and implements medical policies, protocols, and best practices to optimize healthcare outcomes and patient safety.Lead initiatives for patient safety, risk management, and quality improvement.Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and ethical guidelines, while monitoring clinical outcomes and implementing evidence-based practices.Oversee employee selection, onboarding/orientation, coaching/development, performance management and goal alignment as guided by hospital policy and procedures and collective bargaining unit agreement (when applicable) of physicians, advanced practice providers, and clinical staff.Mentor medical personnel, foster teamwork, and promote continuous professional development.Represent the organization to external stakeholders, including regulators, insurance providers, and the broader medical community.Responsible for negotiations of hospital affiliations, participate in professional conferences, and communicate health information to the public.Evaluate and optimize care management processes, introduce medical innovations, and oversee clinical decision support systems to improve efficiency, patient satisfaction, and resource utilization.Participates, collaborates and actively engages in meetings to achieve goals and mutually beneficial outcomes.Collaborates with executives and department heads to align clinical operations with organizational goals.Conducts regular division meetings to disseminate hospital and division information and allows for discussion of staff concerns needing clarification or resolution.Responsible for the processes of supervision, control and appraisal necessary to maintain the appropriate standards of medical care treatment.Supervises the planning, coordination, direction and evaluation of the clinical services and accounts to the hospital President, and officers of the medical staff for the performance thereof.Assures the effective organization of the medical staff, including supervision of the Credentialing process to comply with the corporate bylaws, medical staff bylaws and Credentialing manual, hospital policies and applicable local, state and federal statues.Ensures clinical excellence is recognized and affirmed through quantifiable metrics in performance.Provides leadership for the quality improvement process, in association with the Chief Nursing Officer, to assure the Patient Care Improvement Council (PCIC) functions effectively in achieving measurable, progressive and continuous improvement in patient care and support services.Evaluates clinical appropriateness of new medical technologies and programs, and makes recommendations concerning the relevance of such technologies and programs.Serves as an integral part of the senior management team in setting the agenda for quality improvement by means of personal leadership, instruction and education, and role modeling.Also, provides motivation and guidance in quality improvement across the organization, especially within the medical staff, but also in support of all other areas that provide or support patient care.Establishes and assures a fair process, consistent with the quality improvement structure, and provides medical leadership within that structure, with respect to critical research, new technologies and/or changes in medical specialty practice patterns, such as those involving the adoption of new medical devices, interventions, or other patient care technology by practitioners of various medical or surgical departments, consistent with credentialing processes.Establishes and maintains a program of peer review relative to the quality of services provided by physicians, including establishment of criteria, as well as appropriate interpretation and guidance to the medical staff.Ensures that quality assessment reviews are performed and corrective measures or improvements are achieved in those individual cases where indicated.Represents the views, policies, needs and grievances of the medical staff to administration.Advises hospital President, medical staff officers and department chiefs of potential corrective action for violations of medical staff bylaws, credentials manual and rules and regulations.Advises and counsels chiefs of clinical departments and chairpersons of committees in setting and attaining objectives for the continuing improvement of the quality of medical care.Provides leadership in evaluating, monitoring, introducing and assuring that medical care practices or changes in practice are consistent with patient care quality, while fostering effective use of resources and utilization management.Works with medical staff members, medical staff departments, and hospital administrative staff to assure the appropriate use of resources to further patient care access and quality, consistent with institutional mission, strategic direction, and management policies.Provides direction and leadership within the medical staff to assure knowledge of and compliance with utilization review and approval policies.Serves as Director of Medical Education, with administrative responsibility for hospital-sponsored graduate medical education programs.Serves as the liaison between the SUNY Upstate Medical University and Crouse Hospital.May investigate, or cause to be investigated, the clinical performance or personal conduct within the hospital of any member of the medical staff whose performance or conduct is not considered to be in the best interests of the patients or the hospital and to submit findings and recommendations to the President of the hospital, President of the medical staff, appropriate section chiefs and to the executive committee of the medical staff.Assures that all members of the medical staff are afforded all the necessary steps of due process whenever, for any reason, their clinical performance is open to question, whenever disciplinary procedures are open to questions, whenever their clinical privileges may be reduced, rescinded, revoked or temporarily suspended.Represents the views, policies, needs and grievances of the medical staff and its executive committee in consultation with the President of the medical staff to the President of the hospital.Keeps the Presidents of the hospital and medical staff, appropriate section chiefs, and the executive committee of the medical staff informed of all infractions and violations of hospital policies, patient safeguards, medical staff bylaws, and rules and regulations for which corrective action is contemplated, and submits to the executive committee of the medical staff a plan for correction of same.Advises and counsels chiefs of clinical departments and appropriate medical staff committees on the requirements of the DNV, the New York State Hospital Code, and other pertinent regulations relative to the medical staff.Serves as an ex officio member without vote on all standing committees of the medical staff, as well as on any committee appointed by the President of the medical staff.Represents the hospital in various community, institutional and social organizations concerned with medical care or as assigned by the President of the hospital.Maintains confidentiality on patient and physician information.Assumes other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.Chief Medical Officer Position Requirements:Must hold a valid license to practice medicine issued by New York State.Must hold a current Board Certification in a medical specialty.Ten or more years’ experience in clinical practice required.Ten years of previous clinical leadership experience required.Experience as a Chief Medical Office, or equivalent, in a hospital or regional health system
