Teacher Assistant

Job Title

Responsible for assisting the special education teacher with the management of appropriate educational, therapeutic and health care services for each student in the classroom, as indicated in the Individualized Education Program.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Assisting the special education teacher with the implementation of the Individualized Education Program for each student in the classroom
• Attending transdisciplinary team meetings or other pertinent meetings relevant to implementing the students' Individualized Education Program and attend in-service trainings
• Following daily classroom schedules and specific programs for group and individual activities for each student as directed by special education teacher
• Assisting the special education teacher with organization and maintenance of classroom and therapeutic supplies and equipment
• Accompanying students to therapy sessions as needed
• Communicating effectively with students, staff and administration
• Under the direction of the classroom special education teacher and therapists, sharing in teaching in the classroom setting and the development of curriculum materials
• Observing classroom settings covering ages 3-22
• Assisting students in attending to their personal care needs
• Supporting the mission of the Campus School at Boston College

Compensation

$22.00 per hour

Requirements

Required Knowledge and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in education or related field and experience working with students with multiple disabilities preferred.

Skills/Abilities/Competencies

Excellent communication skills, excellent organizational skills, excellent interpersonal skills, excellent problem solving ability, ability to multitask, ability to work as part of a team, ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, ability to respond effectively in emergency situations. Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Portuguese is preferred. Physical demands include assisting, lifting and transporting students who have physical disabilities.
