With more than 100,000 clients, over $1 billion in assets, and 45 actively managed investment themes, this business continues to expand rapidly.As a Senior Java Developer, you will help build the next generation of Investing Themes capabilities. You'll design and enhance scalable backend services, APIs, and cloud-enabled solutions that support a growing platform serving clients and advisors across Schwab. Working closely with product owners, engineers, and business stakeholders, you'll help deliver innovative technology that improves performance, scalability, resiliency, and client experience.This role offers the opportunity to lead technical initiatives, mentor engineers, participate in architectural decisions, and contribute to solutions that directly impact Schwab clients.What You HaveRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and/or equivalent practical experience7+ years of professional experience developing applications using Java and SpringDemonstrated Software Development skills used to design, build, test, and support scalable enterprise applicationsAdvanced Backend Development experience building APIs, services, and distributed applicationsExperience developing and maintaining REST and/or SOAP APIsDemonstrated Quality Assurance practices including automated testing, TDD, and quality-focused developmentExperience using AI-enabled development tools or automated code analysis solutions to improve productivity and software qualityExperience working within Agile Collaboration environments utilizing Scrum delivery practicesAbility to troubleshoot application and environment issues while maintaining production stabilityPreferred QualificationsExperience with Hibernate and modern Java ecosystem frameworksExperience developing cloud-based applications and distributed systemsExperience with MongoDB, SQL, or NoSQL technologiesExperience with Kafka or similar messaging technologiesExperience with Cloud Foundry or similar cloud platformsExperience leading code reviews and mentoring software engineersExperience improving platform performance, scalability, and reliabilityDemonstrated Technical Leadership in architecture discussions and engineering decision makingExperience collaborating with cross-functional partners to define and prioritize technology solutionsLearning OpportunitiesLarge-scale financial technology platformsCloud-native application design and operational excellenceAI-enabled software development practicesModern API architecture and integration patternsTechnical leadership, coaching, and mentoringEnterprise-scale software delivery and platform modernizationSkill Development ValuesStrengthen Software Development and Backend Development expertise through hands-on platform engineering initiativesEnhance Technical Leadership capabilities by mentoring engineers and influencing architectural decisionsExpand knowledge of AI-enabled engineering practices and development productivity toolsBuild deeper expertise in cloud technologies, observability, scalability, and operational excellenceDevelop business acumen by partnering directly with business stakeholders and product leaders"In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities."
