HIM Specialist

Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00–4:30 Location: Singing River Pascagoula Hospital Position Overview The HIM Specialist monitors, evaluates and troubleshoots the electronic medical record; prepares various daily, weekly and monthly reports; audits patient records for accuracy and completeness; assures record systems and procedures comply with laws and regulations and meet accreditation, licensure, certification and legal documentation requirements; ensures that all dictated reports are transcribed properly and charted timely; assists in and assures quality in super‑user training process; and acts as a liaison to medical staff. The Specialist also performs a variety of secretarial and clerical functions for Health Information Management Services under the supervision of the Manager of Health Information Management Services. Responsibilities Monitor, evaluate, and troubleshoot the electronic medical record system. Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports. Audit patient records for accuracy and completeness. Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, accreditation, licensure, certification, and legal documentation requirements. Verify that all dictated reports are transcribed and charted timely. Assist and ensure quality in super‑user training. Act as a liaison to medical staff. Perform secretarial and clerical duties for Health Information Management Services. Maintain accuracy and detail in all work. Work independently with minimal supervision while handling frequent interruptions. Collaborate effectively with co‑workers and other hospital personnel. Qualifications High school graduate or GED equivalent; associate’s degree in a medical or business field preferred. Professional certification in a medical or business field preferred. Two (2) years of professional, clerical experience in a structured office environment. On‑the‑job training in Health Information Management Services provided. Computer literacy and ability to use standard office equipment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent attention to detail and ability to multi‑task. Emotional stability and ability to work under pressure. Physical Demands Work is moderately active and includes sitting with frequent movements; traveling to another facility within the SRHS service area; lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling light objects; repetitive wrist and hand motions while using a computer; exposure to body fluids; and requiring good visual acuity. Mental Demands Demonstrate keen mental faculties, assessment and decision‑making abilities, superior communication and writing skills, emotional stability to handle high stress levels, and ability to meet deadlines while maintaining collaborative relationships. Special Demands Superior customer service skills and professional etiquette; proficiency with computers, MS Outlook, Word, and other office technology; appropriate clinical judgment; and ability to serve a patient population of all ages.
