Overview As a Medical Staff Floor Manager at the ASPCA Animal Hospital, you’ll play a key role in supporting access to compassionate, high‑quality veterinary care for pets and their families—especially those who have experienced hardship. You’ll energize and elevate a committed team, driving a high‑performing medical floor while leading from the front as a visible role model. AAH provides expert, urgent medical care to some of NYC’s most vulnerable animals and subsidized care for clients who cannot otherwise afford treatment. What You’ll Do The Medical Staff Floor Manager reports directly to the Senior Director, Floor Managers, and has 10–12 direct reports. In this role you will deliver a seamless, compassionate experience for clients and pets, ensuring quality service from check‑in to check‑out. You will collaborate with leadership across AAH, manage daily operations, identify workflow improvements, and enforce ASPCA protocols and Fear Free® practices. Responsibilities People Management & Development: build strong relationships, provide direction, conduct annual performance reviews, and coach staff for continuous growth. Develop and implement clear policies to improve Standard Operating Procedures. Listen to employee concerns, encourage problem‑solving, and create viable solutions. Maintain a high‑performing team through training, coaching, and on‑floor feedback. Lead staff in handling adverse client or patient events professionally. Assist in hiring, training, onboarding, and fostering a positive work environment. Set clear expectations and performance goals aligned with departmental objectives. Oversee the annual review process and guide staff toward professional growth. Promote and model organizational core values and behavioral competencies. Mediate/conflict resolution and manage disciplinary actions when needed. Drive cultural alignment by modeling consistent practice of core values across all levels. Maintain adequate staffing levels, assign responsibilities, and direct workflow during business hours. Assist staff with direct animal care for at least 50% of the work week. Review and approve operations team schedules, time off, and timecards. Ensure staffing is adequate for closing, and that all duties are completed before departure. Identify opportunities for innovation and efficiency, presenting data‑driven recommendations to senior leadership. Oversee team performance and maintain high standards of care in alignment with ASPCA policies and Fear Free® guidelines. Lead resolution of complex issues by addressing concerns, de‑escalating challenging situations, and implementing sustainable solutions. Where and When You’ll Work The schedule for this position: Sunday–Wednesday 10a.m.–8p.m. and Wednesday–Saturday 10a.m.–8p.m. at our 92nd Street location. This is a full‑time role. Weekends may be required, with occasional flexibility and overtime. What You’ll Get Compensation: Target hiring range $68,000–$73,000 annually. Experience fulfilling the job requirements of a veterinary hospital assistant. Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Ability to plan, organize, and lead in a high‑paced, fast‑moving environment. Flexibility, tactfulness, and strong communication skills. Self‑confident, motivated, and capable of interacting effectively with employees, clients, and the public. English language proficiency. High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred. Supervisory experience in a veterinary hospital preferred. Experience handling and restraining animals. 2 years of management experience preferred. Licensed NYS Veterinary Technician preferred. Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a veterinary hospital preferred. Strong veterinary medical knowledge base.
