Eligibility Advisor I Location: Bowie, TX – 601 E Decatur St Bldg B. Type: Full‑time, regular, day shift, nonexempt. Salary: $2,953.25 – $4,365.66 monthly. Telework may be considered and travel up to 10% is required. Job Overview The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) Access and Eligibility Services (AES) division seeks an Eligibility Advisor I to determine eligibility for state‑ and federally‑funded assistance programs such as SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, and MEPD. The role requires interviewing applicants, entering data, authorizing benefits, and complying with state and federal regulations. Essential Job Functions Conduct in‑person or telephone interviews with applicants and recipients to gather financial and personal information necessary for eligibility determinations. Evaluate data from electronic sources and other records, entering information accurately into a computer‑based eligibility system. Compute and authorize benefits based on established eligibility criteria. Process work in accordance with state and federal regulations, guidelines, and timeframes. Perform additional duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Use fact‑finding techniques to obtain, relate and evaluate information provided by applicants. Read, understand and apply detailed regulations and policies. Perform basic arithmetic functions. Manage time efficiently, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines. Establish and maintain effective work relationships with colleagues. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Follow written and oral instructions and directions. Operate computers for data entry and basic office software use (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel). Use Microsoft Teams and soft‑phone technology. Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter hours from an accredited college or university preferred. One (1) year of customer service experience with public contact (e.g., retail, call center, clerical, hospitality, banking, receptionist). Thirty (30) semester or forty‑five (45) quarter hours from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of required experience. Experience interviewing clients and gathering personal information in‑person or over the phone preferred. Additional Information Employees may be required to work overtime and weekends. Applicants selected for hire will undergo a fingerprint criminal history background check and must pass other required pre‑employment checks. Applicants must bring I‑9 documentation on the first day of work; the position may be eligible for telework within state policy limits.
