Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum one (1) year of relevant nursing experience License: State RN License in good standing Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have: - Post-operative care - Patient assessment - Wound management - Tracheostomy care - Ostomy management Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, and resources within the philosophy of the institution. Performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure integration of information for use by the healthcare team. Completes initial assessments upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards. The plan of care is based on patient and family needs. Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. Offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers. Confers with colleagues to expand knowledge base. Identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solutions. Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. Provides post-operative care for the complex surgical population. Assesses and intervenes appropriately to ensure positive outcomes during the post-operative phase. Monitors and cares for newly tracheostomies. Assesses and maintains wounds that require a vacuum-assisted closure and other complex wound management. Assesses, manages, and educates patients and families on new ostomies. Works collaboratively with surgical residency services.
