Registered Nurse - Clinical Float - Medical/Surgical

Job Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical Float Pool at MO-SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital provides assessed, comprehensive nursing care during patients' hospital stay. The RN coordinates care planning with other disciplines, delivers patient/customer driven care across medical surgical units, and is expected to be energetic, flexible, and motivated to support hospital success. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive nursing assessment and reassessment on admission, post-operative and transfer patients. Develop, coordinate, and evaluate a patient-centered plan of care based on assessment data, diagnoses, orders, and evidence-based practice. Deliver nursing interventions, including medication administration, IV management, wound care, and other duties as needed. Document interventions, changes in patient status, and support discharge planning and patient/family education. Practice safe restraint care, pain management, abuse assessment, and infection control, following hospital protocols. Communicate actively with interdisciplinary team, provide thorough hand-off reports, and submit telephone order read-back only in emergencies. Participate in fall and skin injury prevention, infection control bundles, and quality improvement activities. Maintain professional competence through continuing education, committee participation, and adherence to hospital policies. Qualifications Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Missouri. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Experience in medical-surgical nursing or comparable clinical setting. Strong assessment, critical-thinking, communication, and teamwork skills.
