HVAC And Refrigeration Teacher

Southeastern Regional is seeking an HVAC and Refrigeration Teacher to join the program. Candidates must hold a current Section 608 EPA certification at the universal level. Master Sheet Metal License, Oil Burner Technician License, and Bilingual are preferred. Satisfactory CORI, Statewide Applicant Fingerprint Identification Services (SAFIS), and SORI required.

Position Summary

What are the major responsibilities of this position?

1. Map each grade curriculum to the Massachusetts HVAC Frameworks.
2. Provide instruction in the content in accordance with the Massachusetts HVAC Frameworks.
3. Enforce all OSHA safety regulations within the career education setting.
4. Instruct students in the shop, classroom, or field when participating in outside projects.
5. Document student performance, student behavior, and student achievement within the career education setting.
6. Provides review and reinforcement of new concepts; supports students in the completion of their assigned tasks.
7. Demonstrate knowledge of students' IEPs, as well as the accommodations and modifications necessary for student success; modify assignments, tests, and quizzes in collaboration with special educators, if required.
8. Develop resources for students to be successful, such as models, graphic organizers, copies of class notes, video clips, demonstrations, etc.
9. Participate as a member of the career area department; collaborate with teachers within the department.
10. Collaborate with teachers in academic disciplines to facilitate learning activities that are cross-curricular and project-based.
11. Collaborate with the Vocational Supervisor/Cooperative Education Coordinator to place students in their career areas.
12. Maintain documentation, including student performance, behavior, progress data, notation of student absences/tardies, and conversations with parents and administrators.
13. Provide content support outside of the general education classroom, as necessary.
14. Integrate technology into the curriculum.
15. Respond to any correspondence, both oral and written, that comes from a parent or guardian.
16. Participate in conferences and meetings when appropriate; contribute observations and ideas.
17. Attend Advisory Board meetings twice per year; attend Open House.
18. Keep current with changes in your career area; collaborate with Advisory Board members.
19. Accept additional responsibilities as may be required under the direction of the Vocational Supervisor(s).
20. Must be able to complete HVAC projects off-campus, in-house, or projects within the shop environment.
21. You must be able to obtain HVAC/Sheetmetal permits for in-house or off-campus heating, cooling, or refrigeration projects if necessary.

Skills Required

What are the skills necessary for this position?

1. Experience in safely using tools and equipment used in the HVAC industry.
2. Experience installing HVAC components in a manner approved by the Massachusetts Sheetmetal Board, in compliance with sheet metal and refrigeration codes/regulations.
3. Strong organizational skills.
4. Strong communication skills.
5. Able to meet deadlines and carry out initiatives as assigned by your supervisor(s).
6. Strong technology skills.
7. Ability to be flexible with job assignments and performance responsibilities.
8. Willingness to teach all grade levels (9-12), in-house, live work around the building, or off-campus.

Qualifications

What qualifications are required for this position?

• Preliminary HVAC Vocational Technical Teacher License (or the ability to meet the licensure requirements)
• High school diploma or the equivalent
• Five years of full-time employment experience directly related to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration
• Possession of a current Section 608 EPA certification at the universal level
• A passing score of at least 70% on each test (written test and performance test) in heating-ventilation-air conditioning-refrigeration
• One of the following:
• Achieve a passing score on the Vocational Technical Literacy Skills Test
• Achieve a passing score on the Communication and Literacy Skills Test
• Qualified candidates must have up-to-date knowledge of the Massachusetts Sheet Metal and Refrigeration regulations/codes.
• Candidates must have experience installing residential, commercial, or industrial HVAC and refrigeration systems.

Licensure Information/Assistance

• An associate's degree may substitute for one of five years of required employment experience, provided that the degree includes subject matter related to the Technical Knowledge and Skills strand (Strand 2) of the Vocational Technical Education Framework in Heating-Ventilation-Air Conditioning-Refrigeration*, and/or in vocational education.
• A bachelor's degree may substitute for two of the five years of required employment experience, provided that the degree includes subject matter related to the Technical Knowledge and Skills strand (Strand 2) of the Vocational Technical Education Framework in Heating-Ventilation-Air Conditioning-Refrigeration*, and/or in vocational education.
