Job Title: Converting Machine Operator Job Description

This role operates and monitors converting machinery in a manufacturing environment to safely produce high-quality products that meet customer specifications and production goals. The position involves setting up equipment, overseeing production runs, performing routine maintenance, and collaborating closely with other departments to ensure efficient, accurate, and timely output.

• Safely set up, operate, and monitor converting machinery and related equipment to meet production and customer requirements.
• Complete full converting machine setup for production runs, including loading materials, adjusting machine settings, and calibrating equipment to ensure proper operation.
• Monitor the production process continuously, inspecting and testing materials and equipment using safe and proper protocols to ensure products meet quality standards and production quotas.
• Verify, track, and document all materials for inventory and work-in-progress requirements in accordance with internal regulations.
• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform routine maintenance tasks to keep machinery operating efficiently and minimize downtime.
• Train and provide guidance to machine assistants and new crew members on safe machine operation, procedures, and best practices.
• Maintain an organized work area by meeting housekeeping, storage, staging, and cleanliness requirements around machinery and production zones.
• Adhere to all safety guidelines, policies, and procedures to prevent accidents or injuries, including consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Identify and report any safety hazards or concerns to the appropriate team member or supervisor promptly.
• Complete all required documentation accurately and on time for internal and external use, including production records and quality checks.
• Collaborate effectively with other departments and team members, such as machine technicians, supervisors, and quality control inspectors, to coordinate production activities and resolve issues as they arise.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and protect the privacy of confidential and sensitive information encountered in the course of work.
• Perform all other duties as assigned to support production efficiency and overall plant operations.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2–4 years of experience in a related production, machine operation, or general manufacturing role required.
• Hands-on experience with machine operation, general production, and assembly in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
• Ability to safely set up, operate, and monitor converting or similar production machinery.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot basic equipment malfunctions and perform routine maintenance.
• Exceptional time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form, including clear communication with leadership, staff, and internal and external stakeholders.
• Proactive approach with sound judgment and decision-making skills, including the ability to identify problems and develop practical solutions or options.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
• Self-confident, self-motivated, and professional demeanor in a fast-paced production environment.
• Commitment to following all safety procedures and using required PPE consistently.

• Experience working in a manufacturing or warehouse environment with exposure to production lines and material handling.
• Familiarity with production documentation, inventory tracking, and work-in-progress reporting.
• Comfort working around moving mechanical parts, higher noise levels, and varying temperatures.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team, providing guidance and support to assistants and new crew members.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure quality standards and production specifications are consistently met.
• Comfort presenting information or updates to supervisors or other stakeholders as needed.

This role is based primarily in a manufacturing or warehouse environment around converting and production machinery. You will regularly work near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to non-toxic or nuisance odors from chemicals and inks, airborne dust, high noise levels, and hot or humid conditions in the manufacturing area. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, safety shoes, and vision protection, is required and provided according to safety policies. The work setting is production-focused, hands-on, and fast-paced, with an emphasis on maintaining clean, organized, and safe work areas throughout all shifts.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Walden, NY.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
