Bits Craftsman Job Summary

• The Bits Craftsman is responsible for welding and machining tasks in the Bits department. This position includes working with a variety of materials and tools to assemble, fabricate, and finish components as specified by work orders, supporting quality, safety, and production flow.

Bits Craftsman Responsibilities

• Weld and tack components per supervisor instructions and product specs
• Set up and operate manual/CNC equipment such as drills, grinders, and lathes
• Track time and materials used on each job
• Prepare tooling and samples, and ensure equipment readiness
• Perform first-piece and final inspections to QC standards
• Inspect parts for accuracy and appearance
• Use jigs, fixtures, and measurement tools to meet specs
• Keep welding and machining areas clean and organized
• Report material issues or unsafe conditions to supervision
• Wear required PPE at all times
• All other duties assigned by management

Bits Craftsman Skills and Competencies

• Ability to read blueprints and work orders
• Maintain part tolerances during welding and machining
• Proficiency with basic machining operations
• Understanding of shop math and measurement tools
• Troubleshooting skills for welding and setup issues

Bits Craftsman Qualifications

• Ability to set up welders, grinders, and machines
• Experience with calipers, micrometers, and gauges
• Knowledge of machine shop safety and lockout/tagout

Work Environment

• Majority of work is indoors with temperature ranges of 50-110 degrees. Exposure to odors, welding fumes, arc light, and loud noise is expected. Occasional outdoor and weather-related work. PPE including eye and hearing protection is required.

• Standing or sitting up to 10 hours/day (50-100%)
• Moving parts/supplies 10-50 ft (0-33%)
• Lifting 40 lbs frequently (34-66%), up to 75 lbs occasionally with help (0-33%)
• Carrying up to 40 lbs (0-33%) over 10-20 ft
• Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, wrist/shoulder rotation (34-66%)
• Occasional pushing/pulling pallet jacks (0-33%)
