Remote Data Engineer for AI/ML Model Development

Design and maintain scalable data infrastructure that converts raw structured and unstructured information into reliable, high-quality datasets used for research, analytics, and AI and machine-learning model development. You will work on the core data engineering team at micro1, an AI data lab that transforms expert domain knowledge across finance, healthcare, STEM engineering, and more into training data, evaluations, and feedback loops for frontier models and AI agents.

• Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines for ingesting and processing diverse data sources.
• Collect, clean, transform, and organize both structured and unstructured data into production-ready datasets.
• Perform exploratory data analysis to surface trends, patterns, anomalies, and data-quality issues.
• Collaborate with researchers, data scientists, and engineers to prepare datasets for AI and machine-learning initiatives.
• Develop and maintain data models, database schemas, and appropriate data-storage solutions.
• Write and optimize SQL queries for extraction, transformation, and analysis.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, consistency, and security across pipelines and databases.
• Automate data validation, reporting, and recurring processing workflows.
• Document data pipelines, processes, and technical decisions for team use.
• Troubleshoot pipeline failures and resolve data-related incidents.

• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Hands-on experience designing and maintaining ETL pipelines and working with both structured and unstructured datasets.
• Experience performing exploratory data analysis and ensuring data accuracy and reliability.
• Proficiency with Python data libraries, especially Pandas and NumPy.
• Experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• Solid understanding of data modeling, database schema design, and data transformation techniques.
• Familiarity with development environments such as Jupyter Notebook, VS Code, or PyCharm.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Nice to have: exposure to AI and machine-learning workflows, familiarity with scikit-learn, experience with Hugging Face Transformers, experience using OpenAI API or similar AI platforms, and prior collaboration with researchers or data scientists on AI/ML datasets.

• Stated base compensation for this role: $140, 000 to $180, 000 per year.
• Pay notice: the national pay range for this full-time position is base salary $100, 000 to $150, 000 USD.
