Job Title: CNC Laser Operator

Job Description

This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC laser equipment while overseeing a small laser department. The CNC Laser Operator manages the full production process on the laser machines, from loading and unloading materials to performing basic maintenance, and ensures efficient, high-quality output in a custom fabrication environment.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC laser machines to cut and process sheet metal according to production requirements and blueprints.
• Oversee daily operations of the laser department, providing guidance and support to a team of approximately five operators.
• Load and unload materials and finished parts from the CNC laser machines in a safe and efficient manner.
• Perform machine setups, including adjusting settings, selecting appropriate programs, and verifying proper tooling and materials.
• Monitor machine performance during operation and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and productivity.
• Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to ensure accurate part dimensions and specifications.
• Operate related equipment such as press brakes and brake presses as needed to support production.
• Perform light maintenance and basic troubleshooting on CNC laser equipment to minimize downtime.
• Inspect finished parts for quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications, and make corrections when required.
• Collaborate with other team members and departments to maintain smooth workflow and meet production schedules.
• Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment while working around machinery.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper handling and storage of materials and tools.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience operating CNC laser machines.
• Hands-on experience with laser operation in a sheet metal or fabrication environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Experience operating press brake or brake press equipment.
• Familiarity with CNC laser brands such as Amada or similar.
• Capability to perform basic machine setup and adjustments on CNC lasers.
• Ability to perform light maintenance and basic troubleshooting on CNC equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality parts.
• Ability to work safely in a loud, production-style environment.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work both independently and with small teams.

• Experience working in a custom fabrication or job shop environment.
• Comfort working with new and advanced fabrication machinery.
• Willingness to cross-train on additional equipment and processes.
• Strong organizational skills to oversee workflow in a small department.

Work Environment

The role is based in a custom fabrication shop that operates as a job shop with a production-style workflow. The facility features brand new, well-lit machinery, with machines positioned along each wall and typically one operator per machine. The environment is loud when equipment is running; ear plugs and gloves are provided to support safety. Team members may work with one to two others or independently, depending on the area and workload. The dress code requires long pants, work boots or other closed-toe shoes, and a t-shirt to ensure safety around machinery. The shop uses CNC lasers, press brakes, and other sheet metal fabrication equipment, offering exposure to modern, advanced tools in a fast-paced production setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rosemount, MN.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
