STRATEGIC PROCUREMENT REPRESENTATIVE

Department: 300 – Managed Transportation - Operations

Reports To: Director of Yield Management

Direct Reports: This role has no direct reports

FLSA Classification: Exempt

THE POSITION

Under the Director of Yield Management, the Strategic Procurement Representative is responsible for carrier sourcing, development and retention. Heightened focus and responsibility on price discovery, contract negotiation, RFP’s and overall execution of new and existing business. The Strategic Procurement Representative will need to have a high-level understanding of interpersonal communication, both internally and externally.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Sourcing new carrier partners
• Using our tools, technology, and established relationships to bring in new business
• Supplementing Pricing team with rates for RFP’s, spot quotes or any unique requests
• Making carrier routing decisions
• Strong understanding of leverage and contract negotiation
• Cold calling
• Collaboration with Carrier Procurement to further develop these relationships
• Contracting and developing a routing guide for our carrier network around the customer
• Handling and escalating carrier facing issues
• Developing better processes and efficiencies around the carrier selection process to improve customer experience
• Oversee, engage, and interact toward daily account success
• Build strong partnerships with internal pillars and their leaders who engage with each respective client
• Resolve problems, including identifying issues, thinking critically to determine the best course of action, and implementing solutions
• Understand the technology platform and drive automation
• Study and understand market trends and seasonality
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education: N/A

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Driven, enthusiastic, and highly motivated. Ability to build strong relationships. Strong organizational skills and sense of urgency. Exceptional customer service skills. Proven problem solving and analytical skills. High attention to detail and ability to multi-task. Ability to read, write, type, and speak English fluently.

Licenses / Certifications: N/A

Technology / Equipment: Experience with Microsoft Office – especially Excel and Outlook. 

PERFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred. 

Experience / Training: 1 year of related experience. 

Licenses / Certifications: N/A

Technology / Equipment: Experience with Transportation Management System (TMS).
