Job Title: Ultrasound Technologist

Description:
Responsibilities include operating medical imaging equipment that directs high frequency sound waves to anatomy for diagnostic purposes.
Responsible for choosing the correct settings and directing the patient to move into positions that will offer the best view.
Consistently obtain high quality imaging for interpretation by Radiologists.
General understanding of PACS (Picture Archive Communication System) and its function is necessary.
Documents patient care services by charting in patient and hospital records.
Able to interact compassionately and effectively with sick or injured patients.
Ability to utilize specialized computerized equipment to produce cross-sectional images of the human anatomy to aid in diagnosing diseases and/or disorders.


Position Specific Competencies:
Prepare patients for ultrasound examinations and other special procedures as directed.
Able to demonstrate adequate images of anatomy for proper diagnosis.
Consult with Radiologists for exam review prior to patient discharge.
Provide ultrasound guidance for attending physicians in special procedures.
Able to demonstrate anatomy necessary for examinations performed.
Responsible for troubleshooting techniques for machine malfunctions.
Notify Clinical Engineering if needed.
Ensure clinical history is appropriate.
Verify orders and patient identification using established identifiers.
Ability to utilize full operation of the ultrasound units and probes.
Ability to obtain adequate imaging of requested anatomy.
Correctly label body parts and viewing planes.
Demonstrate adequate knowledge of PACS system and its utilization.
Ability to send images after hours when required.
Show competence within electronic medical records system.
Competent to perform high-level disinfection of endocavity probes per policy.
Maintain accurate patient records for all procedures performed, ensuring patient confidentiality and adherence to all standards.
