Clinical Supervisor – Critical Care Transport Services Department: PCH-MAIN | Critical Care Transport Svcs Location: Phoenix Shift: Mon-Fri, Days, 8am-5pm Category: Nursing Posting #: 1016943 Employee Type: Full-Time Position Summary The Nursing Services Supervisor coordinates shift operational flow in conjunction with organizational and departmental strategic goals, objectives, and standards and serves as the hospital’s clinical representative for patients, families, and the healthcare team at both the unit and organization levels. The role provides clinical leadership of patient care services and directs supervision of nursing and support staff to ensure consistent delivery of developmentally appropriate, high‑quality patient care in accordance with all relevant federal, regulatory, professional standards and requirements. This position promotes quality patient care and an engaging work environment during the assigned shift. Responsibilities Coordinate and lead daily clinical operational activities to deliver efficient, family‑centered care. Manage patient throughput, balancing unit patient care activities while overseeing admissions, discharges, transfers, and patient and family rounds. Oversee staffing processes, assigning staff based on established staffing levels that match patient needs with staff competencies and skill mix. Monitor the unit environment, ensuring staff have the supplies, equipment, information, and resources needed for safe patient care. Staff, schedule, and appropriately utilize nursing and support personnel. Update documentation (scheduling, occurrence reports, patient/family concerns, and quality indicators) in real time, maximizing resolution before shift end. Provide a report to the oncoming Nursing Services Supervisor or designee detailing patient throughput, staffing, unit environment, schedules, occurrence reports, patient/family concerns, and quality indicators. Collaborate with management to create and maintain an environment that advocates for staff and promotes engagement through clinical and administrative expertise. Serve as a clinical and systems expert in the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of age‑specific individualized patient/family‑centered plans of care. Promote a culture of learning that leads to staff and team development and retention. Align and manage department and organization outcomes, metrics, and performance‑improvement projects to enhance patient care delivery and satisfaction. Ensure timely completion and investigation of occurrence reports; proactively identify patient safety risks and participate in risk‑avoidance strategies. Address operational functions such as patient safety, complaint resolution, quality‑improvement initiatives, survey preparation, and patient/family satisfaction follow‑up. Make decisions that demonstrate stewardship of financial resources and collaborate to meet financial goals. Serve as a daily operational resource for staff, supplies, and equipment management. Adhere to department and organization policies, procedures, regulations, and accrediting-body requirements. Collaborate with leadership to develop, review, revise, and implement evidence‑based policies to ensure compliance with standards such as Joint Commission, OSHA, HIPAA, Infection Control, Environment of Care, and National Patient Safety Goals. Mentor staff on the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics, fostering compassionate care, privacy, safety, and respectful interactions. Support a work environment that focuses on staff, customers, and patients/families through safe and effective communication. Develop leadership skills among staff, including critical thinking, problem solving, engagement, and career advancement. Participate in the hiring process, interviewing, and integration of new hires. Monitor staff performance and provide coaching, recognition, counseling, and disciplinary action when appropriate, using just‑culture concepts. Collaborate with other departments and healthcare teams to maintain communication channels, solve problems, and coordinate services for optimal outcomes. Demonstrate the ability to lead decisions reflecting organizational standards and values, utilizing the Shared Governance process. Use the chain of command to communicate real‑time concerns about patient care, staff, families, and visitors. Perform miscellaneous duties as requested. Qualifications Education: Associate’s Degree in Nursing or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (required); bachelor’s degree or higher in a healthcare‑related field (required). Experience: Two years of nursing experience or demonstrated bedside competence (required); one year of supervisory or lead experience (required); experience with pediatric patient populations (preferred). Licensure and Certifications: Current Arizona RN license or RN Compact license with multistate privileges in compliance with state licensure requirements; current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; current Pediatrics Advanced Resuscitation (PEARS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification within nine months of hire; current and valid nursing certification in clinical expertise or ability to obtain within one year. Physical Requirements & Occupational Exposure Feel textures and temperatures, fine motor skills, hearing, pushing/pulling, reaching, standing, stooping/crouching/kneeling/crawling, talking, walking, near vision, far vision, color discrimination, keyboard/mouse usage are required constantly or frequently. Lift up to 35 pounds without assistance frequently; lift more than 35 pounds without assistance occasionally. Occupational exposures applicable to office environment, airborne communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, radiation exposure, toxic or caustic chemicals.
