Job Summary

Catering Assistant - Part-Time

Location: AdventHealth Shawnee Mission

Schedule: Part-Time | Multiple Shifts

• The Catering Assistant supports the successful execution of catered events and food deliveries across on-campus and off-campus locations, including physician lounges. This position provides exceptional customer service while assisting with food preparation, transport, setup, service, and cleanup activities. The Catering Assistant helps maintain food quality, presentation, safety, and sanitation standards while ensuring events are completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.

• Ideal candidate should have availability seven days per week, with schedules determined based on business needs.

Essential Functions

• Executes catered events and deliveries by preparing, transporting, setting up, serving, maintaining, and breaking down food service areas.

• Supports catering operations at on-campus and off-campus locations, including physician lounges and special events.

• Maintains food quality, appearance, and temperature standards throughout preparation, transport, service, and storage.

• Monitors food presentation and service areas, taking corrective action as necessary to ensure quality standards are maintained.

• Assists with food preparation and assembly according to established recipes, procedures, and service expectations.

• Maintains clean, organized, and properly stocked buffet lines, dining areas, serving stations, and banquet spaces.

• Supports inventory management activities and assists with organizing supplies, equipment, and catering materials.

• Ensures timely completion of assigned deliveries, event setups, service responsibilities, and cleanup activities.

• Maintains compliance with food safety, sanitation, infection prevention, and regulatory requirements.

• Communicates professionally with customers, vendors, leaders, and team members to ensure excellent service and timely resolution of concerns.

• Provides outstanding customer service and promotes a positive dining experience for guests and customers.

• Assists with operational and departmental initiatives and performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to communicate effectively in English.

• Ability to remain calm and professional while resolving customer service concerns and ensuring guest satisfaction.

• Ability to learn and retain knowledge of catering menus, facility locations, and off-site delivery destinations.

• Ability to observe, listen, follow directions, and complete assigned tasks accurately.

• Commitment to quality, customer service, and attention to detail.

• Ability to demonstrate initiative and contribute ideas that support operational improvement.

• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment.

• Knowledge of hospitality, catering, food service operations, customer service, and dining services preferred.

• Knowledge of food service styles, including buffet, family-style, plated, and reception service preferred.

• Knowledge of banquet and meeting room setups, including classroom, U-shape, conference, dining, and reception arrangements preferred.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Field of Study

• N/A

Work Experience

• One year of food service experience required.

• One year of catering or high-volume food service experience preferred.

• Licenses and Certifications

• Food Handler Certificate preferred.

• ServSafe Certification preferred.

Additional Information

• Availability to work varying shifts, weekends, holidays, and special events based on business and operational needs may be required.
